I'd like to provide an update. Last month I was the successful bidder at Goodwill on a Canon AV-1 outfit. It included the Camera, an FD 50mm f/1.4 SSC, an FD 35-70mm f/4, a Tokina 80-200mm f/4, and a Vivitar flash. Everything was very nice, with little if any wear. Had about $75 tied up in the outfit, including shipping costs.
I wanted the 50/1.4 lens -- didn't care about the rest. So, I took a nFD 50mm f/1.8, which I already own but seldom use, put it on the AV-1, and offered the AV-1 with lens, the 35-70, and the Tokina on eBay. Sold the AV-1 and 35-70 right off, had to relist the Tokina before it finally sold. I kept the 50/1.4 SSC and the Vivitar flash. Profits from the sale were $90. So, given that I had to include my 50/1.8, the way I see it, I ended up with the 50/1.4 SSC and the Vivitar flash and some funky old 70s-vintage camera case for free, or darned close to it.
Me, I like free. _________________ Michael

It was cheap as, despite my trying to explain his error (the guy told me that he. not I, was responsible for pricing) he set the price low as 'it has no lens, it must have broken off...'

I've heard that those work well for geotagging photos.
I had looked into buying one of the Foretrex models a few years back, but I couldn't justify the price at the time. _________________ Sigma DP1, Nikon D40 (hers ), Polaroid x530, Pentax P30t, Pentax P50, (P30t/P50 K-A to Nikon F body mount conversion)

Doug, I'm dumbfounded! But seeing's that the tag says "Goodwill" that explains a lot. Why, just yesterday I was at the local Goodwill with the wife. Found a pile of p&s 35mm cameras, but none worth taking home. We did come home with a few other bargains, though. Sortra off-topic for this forum, but we bough a few high-end women's handbags for next-to-nothing that will likely fetch a nice price on eBay. Suddenly I've become very interested in designer women's handbags. Might end up funding some more gear if I can snag some good ones. We're off to scour another thrift store in a few minutes. I'm busy ignoring Nemesis's comment so I'll just reply to yours, Mo.
Actually this has been a rather enlightening experience for me, because, speaking of spending practices, I haven't really paid much attention to my wife's when it comes to things like . . . well, handbags, for example. Last night she gave me a crash course in handbag quality, what to look for and what to stay away from, and started pulling out one example after another from her stash -- only word I can think of that does it justice -- and here I am, dumbfounded, looking at an array of high-end handbags in a sufficient quantity such that she could open up her own shop if she wanted.
Sheesh! And here I was, feeling guilty whenever I spent money on camera gear! Well, lemme tell ya -- no more!
Oh, and just in case you're wondering, yes we did find several cool handbags today that I plan on putting up on eBay tomorrow, and with a bit of luck, our modest investment will pay a big dividend. Maybe enough where I can finally afford a Nikkor 180mm f/2.8 ED to replace the one I sold many moons ago. _________________ Michael
