I opened my notebook to check what I used to pay for an FD 50/1.8 and came across this record, from 2015:
Canon A-1 x2, drive MA x2, fd 50/1.8, fd 28/2.8 x2, fd 35/2, fd 70-210, fd 100-300, Nikon FG-20 + 50/1.4 Ai-s, $74.77 |

Well, I would not be getting a deal like that today, that's for sure. Although I did buy a Tomioka 55/1.2 for $160 in the spring - a five day auction I won with a single bid, something that was the most mind-boggling part of it. |

Nice. First time I saw this 5cm lens by Miranda. The serial number is not the same format as all others I've seen. |

I can't compete with most of you but I just bought a Vivitar series 1 28 90 for 20 €. There are two small scratches on the front lens. It is MD mount. At 28mm there is minimal decentering affecting the left side of the image turning to right when you zoom in but that only affects the pixels very close to the border of the frame. Maybe there are perfectly centered samples on the market. But it will have little impact on the images and at that price...
It came with a Minolta XG9 that is not working, maybe a battery issue. _________________ Lumens Pixel

A 1972 Soligor 75-260 zoom which was packaged with a Tamron SP 28-80,
AND a same-vintage Soligor 28mm, both being vintage MF.
Next, a 1970s Soligor 400mm 3.6, sent with original hard case AND
another Tamrom SP 28-80. And there's a Soligor 500mm CD CAT lens
which arrived in the original case with filters for less than US $60.
Both of these Soligor lenses appear to be in pristine condition.
The 28mm had fungus, which I think I cleaned, but I've found no use
for that focal length, so it sits idle.
The 28-80 remains my favorite all-purpose lens due to image quality
and build quality, as it's very solid but small. The 400 has captured
a few bird pics I wouldn't normally have gone for, but they're great.
Even Canon's 28-135 v2 doesn't grab me the way Tamron's 28-80 does.
Oh, I also have a Hanimar 13-blade-iris 135mm as brand new,
as it shipped to me way back, while this focal length doesn't appeal to me
in a fixed focal length. It was brand-new old-stock as described, and it is.
I had to unwrap it from its brown wax-paper wrapping.
Not sure what I was bidding on, but it was this. _________________ Craig

My latest find is just one of those lucky happenstances that occur occasionally. My neighbor was clearing out a bunch of boxes of stuff that he'd inherited from his father. He was throwing away stuff that, to me had real value -- like about 200 CDs, many of which were from artists that I like a lot, and a classic Schwinn top-of-the-line 15-speed bike. Of course, I glommed onto that stuff. But amongst it all was a camera that I came across.
It is a Canon 7s and the lens attached is a 50mm f/1.2. He wasn't willing to give this outfit away, though, and mentioned he had a friend who would put it on eBay for him. Well, I was determined to get that camera, so I asked him what his happy price would be for the outfit. He hemmed and hawed for a few minutes, but finally said he'd take $300 for the outfit. Sold! I said. I wasn't gonna let that lens get away.
I took the following photos right after buying the camera. It was dirty! But it cleaned up very nicely. Turns out it is in very nice shape. Everything on the camera works and the lens is in good shape, with no haze or fungus.
Here's the camera in its original leather case, which is in very nice shape.
And a very dirty 7s with 50mm f/1.2.
While $300 is not a super stunning good deal, it's about half what one would pay when buying the camera and the lens separately. And the case alone is worth about $50-80. _________________ Michael

Most 50mm f/1.2 LTM suffers from internal haze which is not cleanable. If your copy has clean glass, then it is worth way more than $300. _________________ The best lens is the one you have with you.
