Attila ! Thanks for your effort ...

Just a report from Austria to help you further: Here the site opens after about 8-10 seconds after clicking.
Opening threads ~6 seconds.
e.g. replying on this thread was waiting about 30 seconds till the window shows up.

Cheers
Tobias

Very very slow from here too, it looks more like a server problem (not enough RAM, slow db, etc.) than a net issue.

Attila, you might want to check http://www.hetzner.de/ for housing, they offer full unmanaged servers with unlimited bandwidth and decent specs at 40€/month, and they have an excellent reputation.

If you need help tuning the DB (provided you have the RAM to do it) give me a shout as I've been a Unix geek for a loooong time.

Performance seems to be fine now, but PM box in the new Marketplace still doesn't work...

PostPosted: Tue Nov 02, 2010 10:30 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Jiri, please try to delete your browser cache. I did read PM box successfully.

Just within the past half hour, I've been getting really long page load times (especially when clicking the "Search" link), and a number of topics have come back with errors that the topic doesn't exist...

Very slowly again this morning. Need more than 1 minute only for login. Response times within the forum - between 20 sec and 1 min. Something is definitely wrong since migration

PostPosted: Wed Nov 03, 2010 8:24 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Totally unusable: pages take 1min or more to load and often time out, authentication expired so I can't see new posts since my last visit, etc.

Same experience this morning (slow response) as described in the above posts. Now appearing to be back to normal again.

Here it goes at hiccups, sometimes it's ok, sometimes it hangs for a minute or so.

First try in the morning takes 3 to 5 re-tries to get site to load. Did server IP address change? I'm thinking yes, that as routers discover their cached IP is no longer valid, they update to the new IP address. There are a lot of routers to update! The re-tries are necessary to help routers discover the new path. Once the new path is discovered, subsequent loads are as fast as before migration imho.

Other than that, problems are also caused by old information in the browser cache -- a re-try with some browsers updates the cache; with other browsers the cache must be manually emptied first to delete the old info.

I don't know for certain, the host provider probably has dozens of servers with identical copies of MFlenses.com; some of those copies may not yet have been created -- when host software decides it needs another copy of the site it takes some time to create; a few re-tries later the copy has been created and is usable.

Some of that is conjecture. I think the point is the internet is taking some time to adjust itself to the site location change. In my past experience (early 2000s) it takes a week or two. Today? There are many many more routers...

Veeeery slow from here.
Often error messages.

PostPosted: Wed Nov 03, 2010 5:44 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

I was wrong (above) -- no problems with speed going to and contacting site router. (tracerts)

The slow response problem is definitely on the provider network. Did MFlenses.com ask to be migrated? Now I think no, that provider network have slow response due to massive copying activity.

Ditto what Lucis says, although within the last few minutes things are getting somewhat better.

Like driving some jalopy not firing all cylinders and backfiring frequently...like navigating choppy water where currents meet. Laughing

Smile I thought earlier today it was like talking to someone on a mobile phone who keeps losing signal in tunnels. Seems OK right now.

It was super slow this afternoon for a couple hours. Sometimes wouldn't load at all.
If we keep having site problems I hope I don't start talking to my lenses.
I believe this is the second symptom of withdrawal.
