I do prefer the dark one. In my LED monitor it means energy savings as well...

Offering different skins does not force anyone to use them. It's a good thing to offer variety. The improved dark version is better but still has many areas for improvement, the variety of colors as well as gradients and borders we see in the light version are more visually pleasing.

Thank you Attila for developing the forum!

I've wondered about that. I don't think it is true. LCD monitor is not miniature LEDs, but liquid crystals which reflect the back-lighting.

Kudos to Attila! I've always been able to view the forum in bright sunlight. Now I can read it longer in dim lighting without too much eye-fatigue too. Thanks so much! Very Happy

It could be true...

If Jes has an OLED display it would be true... especially since OLED displays use far more power than a LCD when displaying white or light-colored pages. Shocked

It also could be true if Jes has a very modern LCD which has the adaptive backlight control. Basically, with newer displays with LED backlights, if you have an image that peaks at 20% brightness, there is no longer the need to drive the backlight at 100% and hold 80% back with the LCD panel as was done in the past. Displays can now intelligently "open up" the LCD and drop the backlight brightness to achieve the same resulting image with lower power consumption. Cool

Somewhat off topic, but it is definitely true for CRT displays. Wink

My LED monitor is made up of LEDs, so if they emit less light, they use less energy, for sure Wink.

I am testing the grey now. Will leave it on for a while and see. Yesterday, I tried the 100% black but immediately revert back to the original white version.

Attila, thanks for providing us with option.

Dark may be cool for images but in my opinion, forum is mostly about reading, and for reading I find light theme much better.
But it's good to have the choice for those who prefer black.

Thanks Scheimpflug and Jesito for educating me about OLED technology (I'm still using LCD monitors...).

Readability for me depends a lot on ambient lighting. In low ambient lighting the brightness of screen viewing black letters on white background causes me to have eye fatigue rather quickly.
