Sigma AF 50mm 1.4 EX DG is very nice. Though its an AF lens, I just love that smooth bokeh, great contrast and colors.

Let's see some love for the humble Helios 44M,

This is a mass produced, cheap and cheerful lens from a factory run under a Communist regime that still to this day looks fresh and modern, in non plastic way, it still looks like a quality lens.
It's also very tactile, it's nicely finished and has a smooth operation, although it does weigh as much as some modern telephoto lenses.

The 44-2 might have the edge optically, any number of lenses are rarer, more exclusive and better performers. But the Helios 44 M did EXACTLY what it was designed to do, and still does it.

It's a design classic.

Oh yes, that's a beauty indeed - a modern one.

Another lens, with completely looks that I also like is that one:

CZJ Biotar 2/58

I like J8 because it is so tiny and still powerful.

I'm really torn between two lovers in this instance - to my eyes, both are equally beautiful...

Yashica Auto Yashinon 1:1.8 f/5.5cm (M42)

Carl Zeiss Ultron 1:1.8 f/50mm (M42)

That black Voigtlander is an ebon beauty ...

I looked through my lenses and pondered this question....

The Canon FL 58 is slim, glossy, with the counterpoint of a matte silver preset aperture ring, but the Minolta 58mm has a wonderful chunky form at the front end....

The Contax Zeiss Planar 50mm looks just right in basic black, but the Rolleiflex Zeiss Planar 50mm is the perfect classic with its silver accents...

But on the camera sits a modest Olympus Zuiko 50mm, a masterpiece of elegant miniature design...today it is the winner!

And the Konica and Vivitar macro grumble in the background ...

Smile

couldn't agree more. I just don't understand why its so cheaply available and ranks so low in collections.

Because there are so many of them about, I know where three are at the moment, all cheap and in decent condition. But I have two already!

More so perhaps than the body, the concave front element of the Carl Zeiss Ultron 50/1.8 makes it, somehow, really beautiful Smile

I am generally a fan of the look of fast, short teles - but there are a few 50's that give the 'block of glass' impression. If I had a Canon 50/0.95 yet, I'd definitely consider it, but perhaps even more unique to me is the Minolta 58/1.2 Rokkor with a preference for the earlier knurled metal grip.

These two beaut's were restored and converted for use on A-mount by a fellow named Shao Zhang, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to purchase one for a very fair price and have used the 58 extensively since for it's bokeh, optical quality, general low light performance and superficially, the look and smooth glide of the wide focus grip.

my instinct says S-M-C Takumar 1.4/50, for me THE 'archetype' of a lens Smile
but how about the Auto Takumar f2/50mm?

The Primoplan 58mm f/1.9 is a classic beauty in alu finish and subtle red details:
