I think I have a scanner issue ...

... and I placed the query here because it does not seem to fit elsewhere. Look at the black line in this pic:

The line started appearing about half through scanning a roll this morning. I checked those negs and could not see a line with my close-up glasses looking through a magnifying glass. There is NO line in the clear spaces between the negatives. I pulled the negative for this image from a batch that had scanned previously without a line.
What do you make of it? Nothing is on the scanner bed or on the light shield. And why would it stop short of the washed-out sky?

Is this one you developed yourself? If so, let your black nail polish dry
before spooling the film. Wink Laughing Looks like a roller mark, if it was
done by a lab. I get lots of these from Walmart and CVS, a pain in the butt.
Just clone stamp it out.

I have had the same black line on few slide films which I have given here to the largest lab in Germany for developing. (not a cheap one)

They found the mistake at their process and after that they said "sorry" and I got 20 new film rolls as a compensation.

Reverse the neg and scan again; see if the line's moved to the other side, or not.
Looks to me like a dead photoreceptor on the scan bar.

Yes, it is my scan, not anyone else's.
I will try that, Farside ...

...and surely a scratch on a neg would come out white on the print, like my cockup using a bulk loader incorrectly:-

How many rolls did you load before you figured that one out?

Hadn't used it for about 20 years and it's full of FP4, so thought I'd use it for testing lenses and cameras to save wasting colour film. Anyway it did show a Tamron 70-210 46a at macro is very good.

Farside was right; it is a dead photoreceptor/pixel thing. A trip to walmart to return the scanner will be made today ... Mad Crying or Very sad

Could be worse. Be thankful that you bought it locally... returns via mail order are a real pain. Wink

Aye ...

These lines sometimes appear - they are caused by dust caught in the top (moving) light source. As there's no way to really get in there to clean it, I try to clean the lid with Endust Electronics spray (I'm sure any good glass cleaner would be good, sometimes I use Windex instead), which may resolve any static electricity charges... or whack the scanner lid... or just wait meekly till it resolves itself.

But this is dust dragged across.

Well, Jussi, the scanner has been returned, and my $82 has been returned. If I had waited two more days to see if it resolved itself, I would not have got my money back. No electronic returns of its ilk after 30 days ...

So, do I upgrade to a V500? (120 film is calling me.)

***So, do I upgrade to a V500? (120 film is calling me.)***

..as you are getting very good/excellent at home developing and if you really enjoy film then go for it, and I would doubt you would see much difference compared to my V750

Epson online and walmart online both have the Epson 4490 on sale for $129.99. Shipping from both is free, but with Walmart, I will have to pay local sales tax ...

Good price for the 4490. I got mine around Thanksgiving 2 years ago that
had two 10% coupons, came to $86, delivered. You might ask Epson for two
10% coupons, yeah, that should work. Wink Smile
