Hey,

I was wondering if you could help me identifying an old lens I found today.
I was checking my dad's attic hoping to find an old lens I could use to build a home-made tiltshift lens.
I found an old Flektogon 2.8/20 which had the exact specifications I was looking for.
However, a quick Google search on the modelnumber raised some questions.
I found the right model several times, but all the time it had Carl Zeiss written on it. Since my model hasn't, I was wondering what kind of lens this is exactly.
I was hoping you could help me identify this lens and also to make sure (since I was planning on destroying it) I won't be killing a potential timeless classic.

Here are some pictures of the lens:

Thanks in advance!

Lex

Carl Zeiss Jena lenses, which were intended for export, were labeled "aus Jena". This is the first time I see aus Jena 20/2.8. Quite rare Smile

... and welcome to the forums! Very Happy

I saw you try to post the pictures a few times... that's actually a spam-prevention measure, new users are not allowed to post pictures for their first few posts. Don't worry, it confuses everyone else too. Wink

Lex, don't damage it, you will always regret it. Sell it and buy another lens Smile

Thank you all for the advice!
I guess I won't be destroying it after all and I'll try to find a buyer for it which will be happy with it.
Should I post a sell-topic on this forum, and if so; what's a lens like this worth?

Hi Lex, the only difference between this lens and one with the Carl Zeiss Jena label is the decorative label ring round the front element. For a short time in the 70s the original Zeiss factory at Jena in DDR was prevented from using the "Carl Zeiss" name because of a court ruling over the rights for the name with the GDR Zeiss factory at Oberkirchen. The ruling only applied in certain countries, for example the USA and a few others, so your lens was intended for that market. Here in UK (and maybe NL too), the Jena factory was allowed to keep the Carl Zeiss badge.

In good condition, the CZJ version can sell for over 200 Euros. The aus Jena version is rarer, so you might get even more than that from a collector. Whatever you do, please don't damage it. Shocked
If it was mine I'd keep it for sure, but if you want an M42 lens to dismantle I'll swap one with you with pleasure! Smile
