I can't remember whose member are the files here - sorry. Author, please take credit yourself.

I have worked a but on these two files in Lightroom.

As a premise: there are two factors that are not good for the comparison, although I'm not sure how much they weighted.
- One is that there is almost one hour difference between the two pictures. This is not good for a comparison: it means a light and colour change.
- The second difference is the lens. The lens on the 5D is quite wider, which of course means inferior detail quality at 100%.
Also the image quality of the lens on the Sigma camera appears better than the lens on the Canon,
but it's difficult to say how much of it depends on the lens and how much on the sensors (and AA filter).

Having that said: it is my impression, based on this single comparison, that the Sigma SD14 (Foveon) colours are slightly better than the 5D.

More than a matter than colours that the 5D can not reproduce (I don't think there is any), I think it's a matter of how colours that are close
(I mean two different hues of the same colour, or neighbouring colours, such as yellow vs orange or yellow vs green) are discernible.

In the 5D image, neighbouring colours seem to "share" a lot. As a result, the perception is muddier.
In the SD14 image, the neighbouring colours appear purer, i.e. less "mixed" between each other.

This is my first impression. I should verify with Ludo's images, but I can not find where I saved them.
For now, it seems to me that Foveon's claim to render colour better than the CMOS, seems to have some foundation in the results.

Ideally, a further step of this comparison would use the very same lens on both cameras. I suspect that the lens can influence a lot.
Ideally, this factor should be zeroed, for the comparison to be more meaningful.

There are my conversions of the images:

I'll admit that I took the photos. In fact they were taken within minutes of each other at the same exposure and lighting - I don't pay much attention to the date and time on my cam's, I think one must be on summertime.
The same lens, an OM 90/2, was used for both shots.
The correct exposure for one cam' seems not to be the correct one for another..
