surely it wouldn't be prewar.... the helios-44 is a zeiss biotar formula obtained as war reparations, right? and then it's coated.....

Sorry guys, never seen or even heard of a Helios 44 for rangefinder. I think this is a Helios 44 for START-Mount, produced from 1958 to 1964.

I'm not sure about the meaning of the serial number. Perhaps a pre- oder special series (normally marked with "0..." someone told me). Or START stuff simply started with 0?

Just going from memory, I think the Exakta external auto diaphragm system began around 1954. Even preset diaphragms, I think, don't go back farther than about 1950-51.

Okay, seems we don't know how old this lens but seems around from the beginning of 1950th, because focal length in cm and it has external button. Is it right ?

Attila - Just wondering, were you ever able to test or make use of this lens? Question

Thanks. Were you able to find an adapter for it, or did you just hold it in front of your camera? How would you say it compares to the later Helios-44 models?
