Does the CA and corner blurring looks really bad for the 16/2.8 compared with other 24mm eq? Or is it normal at this focal length?

Apologies if it has already been posted!

The lack of buttons externally is disappointing but the noise handling looks great, the one area where my Panny G1 lets itself down imho

Normally I wouldn't mention it, but… the link was in the post directly above yours. =)

Ya, the noise performance seems very good compare with m4/3. I guess many of us here are interested in knowing how friendly the UI is towards manual focus though. It seems to gear more towards the auto shooting...

At least the jpegs look rather nice, but we know nothing about the potential corrections made in the camera. Still, considering 18mm flange focal distance, and APS-C-sized sensor, it seems rather nice indeed, though only the raws will tell the whole story.

Regarding the buttons, it must be remembered who is the target group for these two models of the new camera lineup - it is the ones who buy the most cameras, not the folks who like to use manual settings. I am sure there'll be a camera with more buttons later on this year.

Lately the Sony sensors have been very good indeed, and since this is a totallly new one, a solid signal/noise performance is to be expected, especially since APS-C is quite a bit larger than m4/3.

The "real" S/N will of course be only revealed once the raw files are out there and can be processed with 3rd party software.

Some more interesting development. An interview with xclusive interview with Toru Katsumoto, Senior General Manager, Imaging Division 3. http://www.ephotozine.com/article/Interview-with-Sonys-Toru-Katsumoto-13659

Autofocus should be working with the adapter for Sony lenses. Very Happy

Read carefully; that's their wishful thinking. They say it's not working now, but will be addressed with a firmware update “when it's done”.

Here is the quote:
At the launch it was mentioned that the adapter for the A mount lenses has compatibility issues such as AF not working. Is that something that's going to be amended in the future?

Mr Katsumoto: Autofocus should be working with the adapter and we have engineers still working very hard. We wanted to prepare a solution for connecting the A mount lenses from the beginning so that's why we released it.

Yes, but it seems to mean that it should work (i.e. eventually) but doesn't, and that's why engineers are still working very hard but they released it without AF because they wanted to have a solution for connection A mount lenses from the beginning.

Also note the follow-up question:

Quote:

So in time Sony will have a solution for the focusing problem?

Mr Kondo: When it's done maybe we can do it on a firmware upgrade.

Yes, not working yet but eventually should work. Any way, I am happy with the direction Sony is going at this. At least the current Minolta/Sony DSLR users are not left behind.

I'm 99% sure that even if the adapter will support AF, it will only be with SSM/SAM/HSM lenses.

But, hey, this is the manual focus lenses forum, I wouldn't have thought anyone cares. =)

It all started with that "AF Gallery" section... the evil is spreading! Shocked

For us it is not the point if AF works for the (D)SLR-lenses, but if the concept and lancing give a reliable impression on getting enough buyers and keeping the concept on the market for a long period. Not enough clients = no future.

Adapters are already in a make > http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/20100521_368656.html

In short, they are planning for "nikon G-lens" and "Pentax DA lens" with
aperture ring, and for "canon FD lens", "Pentax K lens", "Y/C lens", and
"Leica M lens" without aperture ring (of course). The former costs Y25,200
and the later (witout aperture ring) costs Y19,900, in July.

Maker is "RAYQUAL" so that you may be able to get them through "japan exposure" I guess.

if an APS-C mirrorrless format catches on, it has the potential to force the dSLR market to position upwards - i.e. full frame.

Or, full frame mirrorrless range finder - back to the 50's with Leica, Nikon, Canon RF Smile

onlinephotographer has an hands on review. Looks like the setting buried under menu thing is going to be very annoying...
