I'd say that the A7R or A7 is not as important as the lenses that can fit into them
We know it's here, we know that Sony has done it - these nice 'guys' could wait a bit with the per-order/purchase
and ...
... guys, hurry up to grab a bargain now, I believe there is still something to find..
otherwise, many of good lenses will end up in other hands and your A7R, A7 is gonna be without them _________________ Flickr.com |

I don't see any reason why old lenses will go up in price, people have been able to use them for years on digital.
The price rise happened 2-3 years ago, before that, Canon FD, Minolta MD, Konica, Pentacon B and a few others were so cheap.
For instance, the very common Pentacon B 1.8/50, 2.8/28 an 2.8/135 used to sell for less than 5ukp on ebay, now you're looking at 20ukp or more. FD fit lenses used to be worth very little, especially third party ones, they still tend to b a bit cheaper, but not by much.
It's due to the introduction of mirrorless cameras and the availability of cheap adapters.
Exakta fit lenses used to be substantially cheaper than the same lens in M42, but that gap has closed a lot now.
Bargains can still be had of course, but overall, prices have gone up substantially. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

So... finally a viable alternative to the Canon 5D series with regards to using my Pentax lenses on fullframe!
But actually I'm more thrilled about the new sensors. If Ricoh will keep their promises then one of the two new Sony FF sensors should find their way into the elusive Pentax K-1. I'll give it a wait until Photokina 2014; by then the prices of the Sony A7r should have gone down a bit but I'll reserve my money for the Pentax K-1 (with the my second choice). In the meantime my Trusty K-5 still serves me well _________________ Peter - Moderator

This has surely been the hottest gear news for a long time, as the discussions in all the internet forums show.
But whereas I jumped on the bandwagon when they marketed the NEX-7 (and was one of the first customers in Germany to have one), the A7 does not stir anything in me.
Strangely enough, I cannot feel any urge to buy it. |
i can see why nex7 users wouldnt be excited by the A7-both have 24mp sensors with an AA filter, and most were disappointed by nex7+rf lenses. but the A7r has 36mp and no AA filter. that could make a big difference. |
pfff... most rangefinder lenses worked much better even on NEX-5N than on NEX-7 because NEX-7 sensor had no microlenses
Also noise was an bigger issue on NEX-7 than on NEX-5N an so on, NEX-7 to A7 will be a huge step up optically imho....

The Sony A7r will be locally available 18.11.2013 for 2099.-€ and one copy is already reserved for me
|
I really hope mine will show up that soon too
The price in Norway is almost 2300-€ |
That's far smaller mark up than they make on beer. You can take a comfort in that. |
A Beer is only 12-15 Euro |
Oh crap where do you pay 12-15€ on 1 beer?
Only bar/club I paid so much for one beer was in one of the most expensive clubs in the most expensive town in Germany (Club Rotes Kliff in Kampen on Sylt) where Dieter Bohlen pet on my feets and I was so nice that that I didn't sue him
PS: For the 200€ difference you maybe could buy a Color Line ticket from Norway to in Kiel; the A7r does cost 2099€ (incl. 2 years full warranty) here at a local store (http://www.vico-kiel.de/ - if you're seriously thinking about that you could also reserve one for 18.11 or later with one call). That would be a little "free" holidays on a ship with a new camera on the homeward journey
I don't belive that the price on A7r will drop thaaaat much within the first few months, otherwise I would buy it later. FF bodies generally have a lower loss of value than crop bodies for several reasons. _________________ I'm not a collector, I'm a tester

IMO A7 shapes up to be a better proposition: hybrid AF, faster frame rate, 1st curtain shutter seems much more useful to me than 1.5x more pixels. I'd like to have no AA filter though, but I don't think it is such a huge deal. You can't get the resolution back by sharpening, but I am pretty happy with 12-14MP with a relatively weak AA filter that I have now. I think 24MP will provide loads more resolution than I need. _________________ Many lenses and some film bodies for sale here: http://forum.mflenses.com/canon-fd-minolta-md-c-mounts-m42-pentax-and-more-t50465.html

Let's see how well the A7 stands upto pro use and abuse first. Nikon and Canon pro bodies like the D2, D3, D4 and EOS 1D series are incredibly rugged and robust and fully weather-sealed; I seriously doubt the A7 is anywhere close to that.
Then again, if you don't want the large size and considerable weight of those pro bodies, the A7 is attractive.
Still, I have my doubts the A7 will attract many pros as a main camera due to being less rugged and robust than they would want.
I'd love to be wealthy enough to be able to choose between a Nikon D600 or D800 and a Sony A7 or A7r. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

Lenses, in native E mount, there are only the five that were just released, they are probably pro quality, being Zeiss.
Other than that, you would need to use one of the adapters to A mount, and either the Zeiss or Sony G lenses, not sure how fast Af would then be.
The roster of pro quality A mount lenses is decent, but smaller than Canon or Nikon, and lacks long telephotos.
It's not a pro's camera, it's a wealthy enthusiast's camera.
I'm more interested in what other models Sony have in the works, if I was wealthy, I'd buy an A7, if I was a pro, I'd buy a Nikon. If you asked me at anytime since 1970 what I would buy if I was a pro, the answer would be Nikon, they have always made the best pro bodies. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

I'm already sick of the hype behind the damn thing.
Let's not call it a sensation or claim it can do tricks until it's actually been out a while and people have used it for a fair stretch, that would only be fair and honest. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

I'm genuinely interested in what these are. Tiltable screen aside, what other 'tricks' can this do that a, for example, Canon 5D Mkll can't do?
Serious enquiry. |
Besides, if tiltable screen is a priority, the 5D Mark III has it... _________________ Orio, Administrator

A tiltable screen isn't a big thing for me personally, of course it's a handy thing to have but I don't think it's that important.
I don't know much about the NEX range so I just wondered how it compared to Canon DSLRs in the 'tricks' department. Focus peaking is the only other aspect I know about, but that can be added to most Canon DSLRs so they are equal with that 'trick'. I was wondering what other advantages the NEX system has aside from the well known ability to adapt numerous lens mounts.
I like the idea of a smaller, compact camera for travelling light, but I don't know enough about them. This is probably the best place to get the views of people who use them. _________________ Gary

... you would need to use one of the adapters to A mount, and either the Zeiss or Sony G lenses, not sure how fast Af would then be.

Sony announced a LA-EA4 adapter for mounting Sony/Minolta A mount to the new fullframe E mount A7/A7r. I knew about LA-EA1 & LA-EA2 but never about LA-EA3 so I did some search on the web. Here are the difference as far as I can tell:
LA-EA1 - only AF for limited Sony lens (when the adapter was first released there was no AF but after updating firmware, it supported AF on some lenses ). For copped NEX bodies.
LA-EA2 - AF for all Sony/Minolta A mount lens. For cropped NEX bodies.
LA-EA3 - not much info. Apparently for fullframe E mount cameras and camcorder and no AF.
LA-EA4 - AF for full frame E mount bodies. This adapter should also work for cropped NEX bodies. _________________
