Watch this review , Host uses Leica manual lens on the new A7/A7r |
Thx for sharing is good video!
Such a big shame that the shutter sound is loud
But at least the shutter sounds like it's half-electronical, means that it's unlike NEX-3, NEX-C3 or NEX-5 capable of making serious high magnification macros and high resolution 1:1 repros
Hmm it will be a hard decision between the A7 or A7r
A7r:
+visibly higher resolution and "crispyness"
+magnesium body
A7:
+much faster AF (I don't care much about that)
+better high iso performance (1/2 stop according to that video)
+400-500$ cheaper - almost enough to buy a used high end Zeiss ZM lens
But I think I will buy the A7r anyway because of the more powerful resolution it delivers. Next question would be kit- or no kit-lens _________________ I'm not a collector, I'm a tester

I'll wait to see what happens to the street price (and import price) between release and the new year. And let the early adopters work out the quirks and niggles. This has got me thinking very seriously about selling up my Canon gear. I could live with one decent mid-range zoom and a bag of m42/qbm primes.
Adapter price/availability will also be critical to many, will this work with current adapters to the Sony system or will full-frame adapters be needed? |

Would the VNex system work on the A7r ? |
Thats what i am asking myself until today.. i think it should work.. with small vignetting on edges...
the inner diameter ist 35mm, so this means, on the 36mm side of sensor it will cover 0.5mm on the left and right side of the sensor.
But the tube stays on Top of the electrical contacts, so i have to see, if this leads to a vignetting on the sensor or not. I think, its far enough from sensor to not disturbing the light rays.
If the first cams are available on our local store, or one member of my forum did get the cam, i will sent a VNEX to verify if the VNEX will work with the fullframe sensor of the A7 or what kind of problems we have to solve in future.
But i think, it will work fine also with the A 7.
Cheers

It really a matter of whether you need burst FPS, and really fast AF. If you do, the Canon will still be useful.
Its a shame the shutter is loud and the FPS is slow, but otherwise we are looking at a real dream come true. _________________ Making MFlenses safe for the letter *L* |

It's very unlikely I could afford to maintain both systems. But selling up the 40d and lenses would make a new A7r a more likely proposition, whereas I was thinking about a used 5Dii. I'm sure I won't be the only one facing a similar decision. Sony had thrown in some very appealing specs, and I buy into a body for the long haul - I don t upgrade every year. |

for carsten and Vern, a piece my MR who got a play pre-release:
'For some photographers (myself included) putting Leica M mount lenses on the Sony A7R may be reason enough to break out a bottle of Veuve Cliquot champagne and celebrate. Using an M to E adapter (I have a Metabones), virtually every Leica M lenses that I own works well on the A7R. Some of the ultra-wide and very wides do vignette, so be aware of this. There is no software correction for this, because we're mixing and matching. With other systems where the lens and camera are from the same company there's a lot of magic that can be done in firmware.
I had neither the time nor the full selection of lenses to test in detail what works and what doesn't, but I think it fair to say that most retrofocus design Leica M lenses will work on the A7R. When you consider that this camera has a high resolution EVF, focus peaking, intelligent Auto-ISO – so manual aperture lenses can be used in a semi-automated manner, and of course a 36 Megapixel sensor, this is hot stuff indeed.
In my opinion, anyone who owns a set of (or even a few) high quality M series Leica optics should seriously look at the Sony A7R. They make for a killer combination, and the Sony costs less then a third of an M240 camera. Just test that the lenses that you plan on using work as you expect before taking the plunge.'
I also loved the beardy hipster in the SAR video who seemed to be experiencing focus magnification for the first time, reading fine print on a distant sign...he seemed not to believe what he was seeing...priceless."
Yup, here it is: the new Sony Leica. _________________ Making MFlenses safe for the letter *L* |
