Can anyone tell me how to load film into this for a secure fit? It is from a Kiev cartridge.

The slots run through the center and are wider on one side. I'm not entirely sure what side to feed it through either...

Thanks in advance!

I would think that you would just put it in one slot and then around and through the other... but of course there are lots of combinations of folding, looping, etc... and you could even go in one slot, around through the other, and back into the first if you wanted. Might be best to just experiment until you find something that works.

Here's a diagram from the Kiev-4 manual at http://kiev4.narod.ru/manuals/man_kiev4_e.html:

Not sure that this is clear enough to help any though...

I've seen that diagram before but thanks. The problem is that I will be using this spool for my KMZ Start. The take-up direction is actually the opposite of the kiev (and most cameras I've handled) so it turns to the right.

Ahh, I see why it is so elaborate now. It isn't just a takeup spool, but instead is a core from a reusable cassette, intended to be used as the supply cassette as well. So all of the zig-zags & film folding is to make sure that the film doesn't come out of the supply cassette when you hit the end of the roll.

Depending on your needs, I would think that you wouldn't have to go through the trouble to wind it as the diagram shows if you only are using it as a takeup spool... a simpler attachment would probably be fine, as long as it is enough to hold it on as you start advancing the film. Wink
