I'm looking for a 112mm lens cap for SP300/2.8 and SP400/4.
I want the once that can be attached with the lens shade mounted, see link:
http://www.vistek.ca/store/CameraLenses/237715/tamron-112mm-lens-cap.aspx
The problem is, I find several shops on google but no one has it in stock.
Does anyone know where I can find a similar lens cap?
Maybe someone here has one the want to get rid off? |

I'm thinking of buying that one on ebay that screws in.
That would be the next best thing to use, even if the lens shade would have to be removed.
The thing is, the 400/4 fits into it's bag with the Canon mount only if I have the lens cap that goes on the lens shade removed... If I attach it I must remove the Canon adapter in order to get the lens into the bag.
Some sort of protection for the lens front element would be nice to have. |

I bought the screw on type advertised on ebay. A little tight as the lens filter ring was dented possibly in transit from supplier, but useable. Have partially repaired filter ring by tapping with a wooden dowel and hammer.
I'll give an update if I get a 112mm filter (ring) on how smooth this cap goes on.

I checked mine- I have a few "disposable tupperware" type lids that are 110mm, and an Italian takeout lid that is 115mm but would be easy to cut down.
If it just friction fits inside the hood though, I would think a slightly larger size (larger than 112mm) would be required. You could probably get there pretty easily with a 110mm lid and a wrapping of felt. Other than felt, you could get some stick-on velcro (hook and loop), and only use the fuzzy side. Easy to find locally at the craft stores, and no glue required. _________________ Sigma DP1, Nikon D40 (hers ), Polaroid x530, Pentax P30t, Pentax P50, (P30t/P50 K-A to Nikon F body mount conversion)

It may be that this size is not often requested, but to ask that price for a piece of cheap plastic is impertinent a lot.
Maybe if you send Dealextreme a mail they could get you a cap in the desired size too. I am sure the producer they get the other caps has this size also.
I like to keep the hood on my lenses and resolved the problem as follows:
First I used this click on caps shown in the links above, but although they work fine for lenses they fell of from hoods whose front end is not a ring but a cone.
Than I tried different caps I got in my household. E.g. all my CZJ hoods (the standard ones for the Biometars for P6) are fitted with plastic caps from mustard bottles. Other diameters were fitted by caps from fruitjuice bottles. Buy you can get the caps from the Pringle chips tubes too, they even come in transparent plastic, good to let UV pass and avoid fungus. Also cups itself or their caps containing yoghurt can be a good source.
My method is this: Get the cap that is a bit lesser in diameter than the hood you want it to fit. Try to force it on the hood. If that doesn't work try to heat it with a hair dryer and force it when hot, let it cool down pressed on the hood. If even this would not work get a sharp knife or some blade (I often use one of the blades of a scissors) and shave out sufficient from the inside of the cap. Often this caps are threaded, the thread are easy to shave of. Don't shave out too much, better try the heat method after shaved a part of the plastic, your goal is to get a tight fit.
I never tried metal caps but I think they are not elastic enough and will fall off. I most like nylon caps (they stretch) followed by PET.

is what my CZJ hoods wear, although they think the ones in red are more chic. (Red caps are for the sharp mustard.) The inner threads of the cap shaved out and than heated a bit the cap fits perfectly. Not to thight, not too loose.
We have another mustard producer, his caps (yellow, green, red versions) fit perfectl directly onto my lenses with 62 mm filterthread, also after shaving and heating.
A few days ago I discovered
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2222/2112448158_eff3135e66.jpg
but not tryed it now. I think the cap would fit 72 mm lenses (e.g. the 20 mm Flektogon). I like it that they are transparent.
The caps of this plastic bottles used for products made of milk (e.g. kefir) fit the rear of my 39 mm lenses. So my enlarger lenses and my LTM and ZTM lenses wear them on their mount threads:

http://beculetzu.ro/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/prilej-de-ragaz-sana-napolact-2.jpg
I am shure you can get them in many parts of the world, this caps are standardized.
If you don't find them, aks your lab. The Kodak, Agfa, etc. solutions for minilabs come in canisters with a cap that also fit M39. http://www.adorama.com/KKFCDRL10L.html I like these as they are deeper and fit longer back threaded lenses.
Same thing for M42 back caps, but from other bottles, like ones from liquid detergent, etc. Or for M49, M52, etc. front caps.

Thanks for the tips.
I will try to contact them, but at the moment their contact page doesn't seem to be in order. |
