Just what I need: Another 135 lens!

Pentacon MC Electric 2.8/135 from the house clearance man on the market. The optics and blades are clean, the focus is smooth, the aperture ring clicks on all stops, but there is a ding on the built-in hood and no caps or case. £5 only. I'll try it out tomorrow.

Same for me, I don't need another 135 but this was one I couldn't pass on at the price. A mint CZJ Sonnar 3.5/135 in mint original leather case for 99p. Why no-one else bid is beyond me. Only issue is the blades are very oily and slow, but that is a simple fix. Smile

My latest is a Zeiss 135/2.8 Sonnar in Contax MM fit for £100, a few days ago, which is good but not spectacular. I have had a few standouts, over the years.

A Schneider 80-240 Variogon , with leather case for £25 in an antique shop.
A Schneider enlarger lens for 50p at car boot.
C/Y fit Zeiss 50/1.7 came in at £10 from a charity shop.
I also found a Corfield Periflex with a 45/1.9 for £15 in the same charity shop.
A Yash ML 21/3.5 for £40 off eBay
Best of all, my Canon TS-E 24mm L only cost me £80, as the 'later' part never happened on the 'buy now pay later' scheme!

All of the above were great to own and made me tidy profits when eventually sold on!

I'm particularly excited about the tair: it's a beauty of a lens and I've been trying to get one for some time.
Too bad I have to work now, I hope I can test it proprly soon.

About eight years ago I found a Nikon body (i believe a Nikkormat) with a Nikkor Ai-s 28/2.8, a Nikkor 50/1.4 and Nikkor-H 85/1.8 for 60 euro's. The 28mm and 85mm turned out to be two of my all-time favorites. Smile

Nothing too fancy, but my Nikkor-H 50mm f/2 for $35 on ebay and recently, a mint condition Sigma 24mm Super-Wide II for $41. Considering that quality of both blows modern DX lenses out of the water while keeping the cost to about 1/4, that's quite something.

PostPosted: Mon Sep 09, 2013 8:29 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Those are about the going rates for those two lenses. The fact they are better than a lot of modern lenses says more about how crappy modern lenses are. Keep your eye out for a Nikkor 2.8/24, it's much better than the Sigma, I paid about 45usd for mine.

PostPosted: Mon Sep 09, 2013 8:35 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Hmm, will have to try, although I do like that 19cm minimum fd. What I really need now is a true, proper macro lens, but that's way out of my budget.

And absolutely agree on modern quality, after all, we do have that consumer/pro split these days...

Keep an eye out for the old Micro-Nikkor 3.5/55, a truly superb macro lens and pretty cheap, mine was around 50USD.

Other macro's that can be found cheap: Vivitar 55mm f/2.8 macro and the (underrated?) Canon FD 100mm f/4.

Remember, it's a T2 mount on the Tair 11A, and you can do what you like with it. I've got a PK on mine, like a native lens, now.

Not sure if this counts, but I won a Konica 135mm f2.5 in very good condition for $AU31 on fleabay. Its the first one I have seen being sold on Australian ebay in the years I have been looking. Heaps of watchers too, but maybe the end time for the auction was not right for a lot of people.

Here's what 50 USD buys you in Sweden:

I don't know what lenses they are exactly (photo taken from the auction), all I know is that it´s a 28 (looks like my 7-element version I have already) and a 135 (both probably f/3.5). The mounted lens could be anything, probably a 52/1.8. Still, not bad for the money.

Nice Konica kit and that case looks good quality, too.

I have had many bargains but about 10 years ago there was a Leica M2 with 35mm Summmicron.

PostPosted: Thu Sep 12, 2013 3:49 am    Post subject: Vivitar (Komine) Series 1 28-90mm/2.8-3.5 Reply with quote

This came with a Nikon FE/Nikon SB Flash unit, and Komine Vivitar Series 1 70-210/F2.8-4...all for $65...I'll be selling the body and tele for at least that much so this puppy will be a freebie...

....while the glass is pristine, one of the elements inside seems loose and there was oil on the aperture leaves and so they didn't close easily...they did from F4 but not from wide open/F2.8...so I let it sit closed @ F16 and a month and the oil dried out enough that they now close as they should....only have to deal with the loose element...still, it is a very nice lens...(see the thread with photos taken with it)

EDIT: Found another thread elsewhere that pointed out the 3 set screws around the front barrel...tightening them carefully and that tightened/secured the front element...success!

77mm B+W Circular Polarizer off CraigsList for $40.

A couple weeks ago I snared that Tokina 17mm 3.5 SL for half the going rate.

And last night I picked up a new-in-box Arctic Butterfly for $75 (normally $125)... 'cuz it was listed on Ebay as Artic Butterfly.

Hopefully with just fungus that's easy to clean, another 1966 50mm, but this time Nikkor-S f1.4 for $36.
