What is the purpose of the large and small cutouts in the hoods? Question

Yes, it is puzzling. Wink

I've seen plenty of "vented" or cut-out hoods on rangefinders, and it is usually to keep the viewfinder view from being blocked... but the Trip 35 isn't a rangefinder, so that would only explain one of the cutouts, not the second... They also don't seem to be in the right position for the viewfinder...

It really doesn't matter what position the hood is on the lens, the lower
right corner is still obscured, but much less so than the Series VI hood
I had on before. Smile These hoods also were for the 35RC, Pen EE, and
any other product that had the 43.5mm lens.

Very Happy I am glad it arrived safely,Awww doesn't it look good... I was thinking which one it was and then read your comment at the end...you read my mind Embarassed
There is always a reason I am finding in cameras and equipment why things have their little quirks etc...just keep using it and you will find the answer! Then you can tell us Laughing

Just a thought since a hood keeps direct light off of the lens maybe the position allows the less direct light onto the lens?

Sounds reasonable to me, Moira, good point.

Whoa,,,

Those cutouts are what you need to have when those hoods are stored
backward on the lens which has focus tub just like ye olde Canonet's.

I will upload the photo tomorrow if I do not forget it. Very Happy

Here come photo (of hood with cutout):

in use>

stored (in reverse)>

BTW, the camera still works amazingly after 51~52 years. This Canonet is
my wife's, her farther bought when she was in grade 7 or 8. The camera
is a mint condition.

She used the camera to shoot this scene to test self-timer!!

If I remember correctly, the Trip original hood was the same one also used on the 35RC, and the cutouts are for the RC rangefinder window.

Thanks for the pictures, Koji-san, the Yashica GTN I had did the same thing
as well with its OEM hood.
