Was hoping to find something here on the topic, but didn't succeed.
Anyways, I've found this convertion guides:
http://www.nanoer.com/md_eos_conversion.html
http://www.cogitech.ca/Rokkor/index.html
Looks like the most difficult thing is to take an m42->eos adapter and remove flange. Then attach it to the MD lens.
If I got i right, then why aren't there any adapters w/o flange? Like m42->Nikon F? |

I recently got an MD Rokkor 50/1.2 on ebay, now I'm planning to convert it to EOS. As far as I see it's no much work.
Found another tutorial:
http://www.cogitech.ca/Rokkor/index.html
This is pretty easy to do, the only problem is to adjust infinity properly.
But still, considering this guide:
http://www.nanoer.com/md_eos_conversion.html
It looks like you can make an MD->Eos adapter with infinity, which has to be w/o the flat part. Like m42->nikon adapter. Why nobody makes those? If we put mirror problem on 5d aside, it would be a nice thing for all minolta lenses fans using eos cameras. |

I would convert Konica Hexanons to 4/3 and I did skip it I bought a G1 instead. I have one of those. It's great for when you really need that extra mm, but otherwise it is a real pain to use. Remember that with Nikon lenses, the lens is locked in place by the slot on the lens base and the pin in the body. With the flangeless M42 adapters, there is no slot on the lens, and therefore no way to lock the lens in place. This means that when you use it, you have to always hold the lens to keep it from rotating and falling off, and "simple" tasks such as changing the aperture become a "three-hand" operation. _________________ Sigma DP1, Nikon D40 (hers ), Polaroid x530, Pentax P30t, Pentax P50, (P30t/P50 K-A to Nikon F body mount conversion)

There are kits sold by Jim Buchanan that lets you convert some Minolta lenses. They are reversible.
And +1 for what Attila said.
If you are planning on having multiple Minolta lenses you can convert a Canon EOS to Minolta MD mount, or just use a 4/3 camera. _________________

I did some conversion from MC/MD to EF mount, but to F mount is much tougher
than you would think, and also you may need to shave the mirror of Nikon camera.
Of course you can find an M42->F mount adapter/flange at eBay, but the register
distance you have to adjust by yourself. If you do not stick to Nikon cameras,
there are many other routes to go.
1) Change Canon camer's flange to MC/MD flange so that you do not have to butcher
the Minolta lenses (there is even the flange for EOS 5D FF camera)
2) Get Sony NEX3/5 and MC/MD -> E mount adapter, you do not have to anything at all,
3) Or get micro4/3 camera and appropriate adapter same as 2) in the above.
-----
Oh, "walter g" won. I myself changed the flange of EOS 350D, so I can use the most of
Minolta MC/MD lenses. But I now want to explore 2) in the above method, so that
my Contarex lens, Alpa mount lenses and Minolta lenses with APS-C size digital sensor.
To me m4/3 is a bit too small, and noise is problematic with high ISO. And possibly some of
m4/3 lenses can be used on Sony NEX camera only if Kipon makes an m4/3 -> E adapter!
(I am thinking Cosina's new m4/3 lens NOKTON 25mm F0.95 may have enough image
circle to cover APS-C size sensor, that's my wild dream of course.)
I measured the openning of E mount and the size of micro 4/3 lens, there is a possibility
to make the adapter, since the register distance of E mount is about 2mm shorter than m4/3's. _________________ Our Home Page has 18,200 photos in 575 directories today.

I did many conversion of diff. mount as well.
As we know, 1) we can change canon flange to MD flange, we "destroy" Canon body, and useable with Minolta Lenses only.
2) We replace the MD Mount with M42-EOS , the most of them after conversion useable wide open only, we "destroy" MD Lense
At the end especially for MD Minolta mount, I find another way to use it with Canon digital body.
I made one universal mount , which can be mounted to every MD lense, without any destroy of the Minolta lense.
At least for me, it is the solution to use Minolta Lenses with Canon digital body.

Anyways, I'd like to try converting the MC first using the guide. It's not that hard as you can see.
What about those conversion kits? Where can I find one? |

Sure , there are many ways to do it.
FYI : M42-EOS adapter is around 1.36 mm thin, I use lathe to make it 0.6mm thin.
0.6 mm plus 0.5mm (register diff from EOS-MD mount) = 1.1 mm.
It means 1.1 mm to be compensated ( hellicoid adjustment ).
Inside Rokkor 50mm f1.2 , there is one small screw inside , which you have to replace with smaller one ( make more space between lense group with mech. part of aperture) _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/convert1/ |
