Shipping to P.O. Boxes

I just wanted to take a moment to thank sellers who ship to Post Office Boxes. Cool Be it items from eBay or other auction sites, or private sales here - Thank you for being willing to do this, I greatly appreciate it. Cool

You see, not everyone lives in a place where mailboxes are secure and neighbors are trustworthy... and this situation is made much worse when international packages have the customs forms right on them which state "Camera Lens - Value $100". Confused There are also the cases of small communities where everyone has a PO Box - it is just more practical for rural mail carriers to deliver everything to one spot and continue on to the next community, instead of stopping at every distant residence to deliver mail.

I think there are also misconceptions about PO Boxes... for example, signature requirements are often cited as reasons to not ship to a PO Box, but I can receive registered mail to mine and I must sign for it in person before I can take the package.

So why the extra effort to post this "thank-you" publicly? Because by definition, shipping to P.O. Boxes also means shipping to unconfirmed PayPal addresses, as PayPal will not verify an address which is not a residence. Confused Unfortunately, shipping to an unconfirmed address is a bit more risky for the seller, and many (especially the "power sellers") simply refuse to do this as a policy. Sad

That's all I had, just wanted to get that message out. But feel free to discuss any other issues regarding PO boxes here. Wink

Interesting point you have brought up here. How does the registered mail/package work? Assuming there is a registered package for a PO Box so I will think they will leave a note asking you to pick up from the post office or courier. Is this correct?

Another possible reasons why most sellers do not want to send to PO Boxes is if something happen (touch wood), it might be difficult to claim insurance. Am I correct saying this?

In Germany it is not possible to ship to a P.O.Box.

The dhl courier tries to give you the shipment at your home, if you are not in,

a.) he will place it in front of your house door !!!!, or
b.) sometimes he gives it up at the neighbour or
c.) you will find a short notice within your letter box, that you can get a carton at the next dhl station (normally the place where you have the P.O.Box Rolling Eyes )

I do no longer try to understand this system. It is as it is !

In the US you can have a Po box as a confirmed adress. I do.I also have my street adress as a confirmed adress. That is for the sellers that ship UPS or FEDEX.

I have had hundreds of packages come to my PO box without any problems.
