My 350d gave up the ghost recently so I decided to buy another body.

This seller had a tidy one listed, "perfect working order with no issues" and so on so I bought it.

The camera turned up without a dust cap on the body, the lens mount stuffed full of bubble wrap, the viewfinder was caked in dust and dead bugs etc.

Worst of all the focus confirm lights were all misaligned so far that they didn't even hit the boxes in the viewfinder, they were all too far to the right. As a consequence the lights do not hit the little reflectors/etched areas and the lights are so dim you could hardly see them unless you turned the lights off!

I emailed the seller and he claimed this was normal for ANY used camera and that I was being FUSSY.

He said it was a regular issue with this particular model, I said that the description mentioned there were "no issues" but he said I was splitting hairs!

When I demanded a refund he told me he had found another body that "works correctly" at which point I said if this is the case then you were lying by claiming the first body isn't faulty.

I sent the camera back but he did not refund my original postage, on top of the postage to send it back I was £18 down.

I left him negative feedback and he sent me a ridiculous threat about taking me to court (he must have heard that silly story in the news a few years back) he then sent me a request to change my feedback which I denied!

Then he sent a request to cancel the transaction, that option is supposed to be for when an item gets lost or damaged and cannot be sent, he stated to ebay that I had "changed my mind" he was obviously trying to get his selling fees back but seeing as he ripped me off I immediately cancelled his request. He then accused me of being a scam artist, I pointed out that to scam someone you need to make money from them, not buy faulty goods and not get all your money back.

He has now sold the camera to someone else even though he still possesses money I paid towards it. The new owner left positive feedback but I emailed them and told them the situation, they said they had not fully checked the camera over but now it seems they have realsied it is faulty too!

In the meantime, someone else has bought a camera from this guy that was faulty and he has accused the buyer of damaging it himself and is refusing to refund him!

Basically this guy is dishonest, arrogant, hostile, unprofessional and very poorly informed in terms of legal matters and distance selling rules etc.

He tries to pass off physical damage and malfunction as "normal wear and tear"

AVOID!

Update:

I have received a message from the third buyer now, not the one who has the camera I returned but someone who bought a 400d from him.

The 400d arrived non functional, he sent it back and then the seller claimed that the buyer broke the camera and has not only refused to refund him but has also threatened him with "legal action" if he dares to open a paypal dispute.

Obviously I have told the buyer to open the dispute anyway, this seller cannot be allowed to carry on making up his own rules and keeping money that does not belong to him!

One times I got a broken scanner from USA, seller was similar liar... he sent a broken one (he didn't use transfer safety tools) so I am sure it was broken before sending out or broken from his fault no matter. One of our member kindly offered me to visit him with some friends and ask about scanner Laughing Laughing and ... he did refund my money Laughing Laughing

Just curious... how are you contacting or being contacted by these other buyers? Ebay has gone to great lengths to mask user IDs, etc.

Probably through the feedbacks...see who bought what from whom! unless they keep it private?

You should give the info with the other buyers and their experiences to ebay too. Sometimes it is as you have written that they do nothing in a single case - but if there are more you have a better chance.

I had a similar situation some month ago. There was a member who sold 8 ! CZJ 2.8/180 with P6 in very good condition. Every lens had a "water damage".

I have had alone some trouble too with ebay but then i organized a collective action and at the end the seller was kicked out by ebay.

I recently sold a compact R/F on eBay. Some other sellers had the same model listed, so I put them on my watch list to see how they went.

A bidder, X, bid on my camera, but was outbid a little later. I then saw a bid on one of the other sellers' models, seller N. I was pretty sure it was bidder X because the feedback number was the same, and though the feedback breakdown only gave the type of purchases, it corresponded closely with the feedback record when viewed through my listing, where I knew the identity of bidder X.

The interest value here for me is in what X was bidding on. I always make sure I have comprehensive pictures of what I'm selling, to give the buyer the same confidence I'd want for myself as a buyer.

Bidder X was successful in buying seller N's camera. But I knew almost instantly that bidder X was not going to get what he thought he'd bought, because seller N had ripped off a photo of the camera from the web site of an enthusiast who has a collection of classic compacts and rangefinders.

I checked some more of seller N's listings, and he'd ripped off photos right left and centre. One even had the damaged corner shown and commented on in the Camerapedia article he'd lifted the picture from.

I toyed with the idea of dropping bidder X a note, but then wondered how much of my business it was to police eBay transactions.

It's made me cautious of auctions where only one picture of the item is shown.

UK law (or more probably English) states that when purchasing an item under "distant buying" which proves to be faulty the seller HAS to pay a FULL refund including postage and you DO NOT have to pay postage to return the item, thats the sellers responsibility.
Personnaly I would threaten the a...hole with the small claims court, bearing in mind that if you win he will also have to pay the court fees etc etc

WTF he got ebay to remove me negative feedback!

It wasn't rude, racist, threatening, dishonest etc, it broke no feedback rules as far as I can tell

How can he get away with it when it's obvious he has done a similar thing to someone else?

How can ebay remove the feedback without consulting me first?

What is the point of the feedback system if ebay can just remove your comments and protect bad sellers?

From what I can see, they've removed the comments, but not the negative rating, so at least he's still got a negative against him.

Yeah I noticed that too alex, it still sucks though, it almost gives the impression I did something wrong but as you said at least it still hurts his percentage
