Zoom faster than 2.8?

Does this exist? I know there are C-Mount lenses that have really fast f-stops but what about 35mm zooms? Is 2.8 really the fastest or are there some f/2's out there somewhere?

EDIT: Did some googling and it looks like Olympus does make 2 for the 4/3 format at a max aperture of f/2. Other than that, there isn't anything beyond that mainly due to how big the lens would have to be and of course the cost. I'd still love to see a company try. Maybe Samyang?

    Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L IS USM 760g
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM 1490g
    Olympus ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 35-100mm f/2.0 1650g

If Canon make 70-200mm f2 lens for use with 35 mm full-frame cameras, i guess the weight may be close to 3Kg. Apart from the weight and size, the design and manufacture cost of such lens should be very high as well. It is difficult maintain the image quality with such fast lens.

There are some Angénieux lenses that cover the 24x36 format and start at somthing like f/2,3. I know no other zoom lens that is faster than f/2.8 and covers 24x36 (indeed, there are faster lenses that do not cover 24x36mm, but it is normal, since the format is smaller)

Tokina AT-X Pro 28-70mm f/2.6-2.8 is, technically, faster than 2.8 - at least at the wide end.

from PM's exchanged with him:
6.5 kilos , 38cm long with m67 screw mount on the back.

Sould be a cine zoom for film larger than 16 mm
I was thinking to get it for my e-p1 but it turned to be very big Very Happy

The only 24x36 third party lens were
Soligor (access or quantum or cpc tm) 35-70 2.5/3.5 COMPACT LENS .. if someone interested, i sell mine in om mount
    Angenieux 35-70 2.5/3.3 BIG LENS
Angenieux 28/70 2.6- 2.8 BIG LENS (made by tokina)

I read in a photokina report a tokina 35-70 2.5 was announced but never saw anything concret about it

Does anyone have samples from some of those c-mount zooms?

I got one of those 22.5-90MM F1.5 from ebay but still haven't received it.
I guess there will be a vignetting on micro four thirds

But how much to expect?

The Angenieux 28-70mm (made by Angenieux) is f/2.6 throughout, the Tokina 28-70mm, allegedly based on an Angenieux design but altered so it could be sold at a much lower price, is f/2.6-f/2.8.

The difference between f/2.8 and f/2.6 is 1/5 f-stop. The difference between f/2.8 and f/2.5 is 1/3 f-stop. Any potential purchaser must calculate how deeply they wish to dive into their money supply for that marginal gain.

Yes, a C-mount lens will vignette on a 4:3 camera. 16mm cine, the C-mount's original home, uses frames of ~7.5x10.3mm (diagonal= 12.7mm) or ~7.4x12.5mm (Super-16, diagonal= 14.5mm) while the 4:3 frame is ~13x17.3mm (diagonal= 21.6mm). Depending on the lens and focal length, you might get a full image circle on the 4:3 frame!

I re-read it this morning : It was the 1983 pma report and 2x lenses were annonced by tokina :
atx 35-70 2/2.5 and atx 60-120 2/2.5 ..

I never heard / see anything concret concerning these lenses.. perhaps were they never sold or only in japan ? If someone has infos , he is welcome

I guess we need to answer this question with "NO" as long as you are looking for a lens that covers the 24x36mm format.
Some modern AF-Zuikos are faster, but they only cover 4/3.
And all those lenses that offer f/2.6 or f/2.5 at the wide end... well I think that is rather PR than a real difference to f/2.8.
I'v got the Tokina AT-X Pro II 2.6-2.8/28-70 and I like it a lot, but it wouldn't be different as a 2.8/28-70.

Surely not for 24x36mm!
