I have a lens with a silver oval sticker that reads:
JCII 71
PASSED
JMDC
I've read that "JCII" first stood for "Japan Camera and optical instruments Inspection and testing Institute", but now stands for "Japan Camera Industry Institute".
"PASSED" seems to be disputed... some say it means the individual lens passed a post-manufacture inspection, while others say that it means the lens design passed and the same sticker is applied to any lens of that design.
I have no idea what "JMDC" stands for, or what the number "71" translates to. I'm hoping it might help me date a lens.
Does anyone have any insight into these stickers? _________________ Sigma DP1, Nikon D40 (hers ), Polaroid x530, Pentax P30t, Pentax P50, (P30t/P50 K-A to Nikon F body mount conversion)

That's a good question.
The answer to that is ambiguous at the JCII museum.

With the cooperation of Japanese camera manufacturers, the Japan(Nippon) Camera and optical instruments Inspection and testing Institute (JCII) was founded in 1954.
It was formed to inspect all cameras exported from Japan in order to maintain quality standards.
museum In addition to this inspection function, JCII in 1969 started to designate some cameras as "Historical Japanese Cameras"and began efforts to preserve these important items. |

Yeah, and I've found various descriptions for the numbers as well, but nothing conclusive, and nothing that I can find at two or three sources to make me trust it. _________________ Sigma DP1, Nikon D40 (hers ), Polaroid x530, Pentax P30t, Pentax P50, (P30t/P50 K-A to Nikon F body mount conversion)
