Great changes and I fully agree with Rolf, the upgrade of searching parametres would help a lot. New members (I´m still new to this forum) are 100% searching for opinions, pictures and experiences of several lenses and If I input into searching bar e.g. Zeiss pancolar, it shows hundreds of thread where either of those words are mentioned. And that is only half of the function.
Otherwise the forum gets 5 out of 5.

They should go to the Main or Oversized galleries.
The purpose of the B&W prints section is to promote home printing.
There is another possibility, to re-address the gallery as B&W film gallery in general. In that case we could also use direct-to-scanner negatives.
But not converted colour film.
It should be always stated whether it's scanned negatives or scanned prints.
Let's gather opinions, let me know what option you prefer. _________________ Orio, Administrator

As for my opinion on B+W, allow scanned images if they are really B+W negative based. Some of us have film scanners as a darkroom with enlargers etc isn't really an option. The only other criteria should be that manipulations should be limited to those that can be done by an enlarger - contrast, brightness, etc.

And what about sharpening? The term "unsharp mask" comes from a darkrooom technique for sharpening by creating a slightly blurred (unsharp) positive copy of the image and using it as a mask under the enlarger to remove soft edges in the original neg. So maybe a touch of sharpening is permissible too? _________________ Peter - Moderator |

I think that whatever editing is meant to improve the image without making of it something else, is ok.
Sharpening after scanning and resizing is more a necessity than a choice.
Of course it is impossible to make rules and boundaries for everything.
Good sense by people is required.
Turning a scanned negative sepia or blue with a digital operation is in my opinion something different than some compensation sharpening or adjusting black point while scanning.
Sharpening and basic leveling (black point, gamma) are meant to optimize a scan, while colouring, or more strong level editing like curves, are more a digital transformation of the image than a basic adjustment.
But again, we can not set rules for everything, else people will not post their images.
We must rely on the common sense of the members. _________________ Orio, Administrator

I've noticed that a few times on ancient threads that have been resurrected. During their time in the vaults they've matured, a bit like smelly cheese, or old socks, but also suffered from bit rot.
Actually, I think it occurs when someone deletes their post and the page counter gets confused. _________________ Dave - Moderator

We have completed the reorganization of the galleries.
It really didn't make much sense to have sections for slides and B&W and not for colour film negatives.
So now the galleries are split into four sections (digital, slides, colour negatives, B&W negatives).
I think this organization makes much sense.
It also helps with evaluating the lenses, to keep the medium separate.
And it gives visibility to film.
The two generic galleries (Oversized and Equipment) will continue their purpose, unless sometimes in the future we should decide to change the politics about image sizes,
in which case of course the Oversized gallery will be reconsidered. _________________ Orio, Administrator

Yes, possible by mods, I did start to do it but very slow process if I can't identify from title like sensia, portra etc . Need to do by hands and takes lot of time. If you find your posts , put into title b&w for example for b&w pictures and slide or slide name like Provia for slides etc. Let me know when it is done and I will move them to right Galleries in batch. _________________ -------------------------------

hi Spotmatic
yes, it was already discussed (at least in the moderators forum, don't know if in a general forum) and the consensus of the majority was that it wouldn't make much sense for a manual focus lenses forum, to have a forum for autofocus lenses, and that the spaces that are already provided to post autofocus lenses images - the Café, as off-topic, or the various Camera forums if an image serves for the discussion of the camera - are enough.
However, you can post a poll on the subject, and if Attila and the Moderators (doesn't it sound like a 50s band name by the way ) will see that there is an overwhelimg demand for an autofocus forum, they might change their mind _________________ Orio, Administrator

Couple suggestions(?) after using the board for a couple days...
1. Possibly change the gallery name to "Slide Film" not "Slides"
2. Maybe remove "Gallery" after every subforum heading??
3. What about having one Film and one Digital Gallery but using thread prefixes. Example: Have a drop-down menu for Slide, Color, B&W, Special in the "Film Gallery"...and/or have a format selection menu like 35mm, 120, 4x5, etc.
So an example thread title could be something like "[35mm Color] Some city shots with the VUWS" or another could be "[120 B&W] Shapes in the sun"
Just some thoughts And I hope they make sense _________________ Pentax Bodies: K10D + D-BG2 | MX |
