I'll throw my 2 cents into this as well. The Cyclop is essentially a novelty lens; it has an interesting effect when used successfully and is a substitute for the much more expensive Helios-40. For those that end up using a fast lens wide open virtually all the time, it could be a good alternative to the Helios-40, but only when the money difference is enough to make it a worthwhile alternative to any given user. When the price of the Cyclop gets driven up by the hype resulting from activity on forums like this one, it makes less sense in my opinion. Mine cost me about $50 including shipping; if it had a price tag as high as they are going for today, I wouldn't have bought it.
I'd rather have the Helios-40 and maybe will at some point if I find one I deem affordable, and at that time would sell my Cyclop as redundant. And to be honest, if I were looking at the Cyclop vs. the 85/1.4 and considered the cost difference insignificant, I'd go with the 85/1.4. In fact, I'd love to own that lens. As for the longevity of lenses, any lens that will last longer than me is worth buying. And I don't buy lenses for investment, I buy them for their photographic value to me; you see, for me it's more about the end result than the equipment I use to get there.
As for resale values, I suspect at some point the Cyclop will lose some of its attraction after those who have been intrigued have been satisfied. It will not likely be an ever increasing value. But for that matter, the same may hold true for most other lenses.
One more thing, although on another subject... When I first got my Cyclop, I was getting some very weird (this is a good thing) bokeh effects. I was having challenges getting the focus right, but did do so at some percentage. I discovered a loose rear element as others have also reported, and when I fixed it the bokeh also calmed down (this is a bad thing). _________________ Regards,

This thread has gone too long without a post. I fnally got around to trying my Cyclop on the NEX-5N and it seems to get the same improvements as my other lenses do at fully open. The NEX focusing aids also make a huge difference.

It works fine, just not as bright in the eyepiece, if you put a 50m 1.8 on. _________________ Dave - Moderator

Hi!
I have a question about this lens! I have found one on the local market, but the seller states that it is not possible to remove the lens from the nightvision system's body. As far as I know it is simple screw mount lens, so is it possible just screw it off without any additional work? |

Finally he managed to get it off. Is this the "right version"? Thanks for your help!

Someone know if Zenit survived to CCCP disgregation or the new Zenit is a proget like Impossible project for Polaroid?
