It's a Zeiss T* of some description... poilu has the shortest Sig ever!

Nikkor 24/2.8 AI at £60. I don't regret buying it at all, it's not in pretty condition but optically great and in good condition they have been going for 3-4x that lately. Doesn't get much use now, although I will get an F mount NEX adapter to use it soon.

Counting AF, the Pentax 55-300 was £200 and is a fair price for a well built and optically good mid range telezoom.

Olympus OM Zuiko 400mm f6.3 £299
Olympus OM Zuiko 500mm f8 Mirror lens £249
Samyang 7.5mm m4/3 fisheye £224
Samyang 85mm f1.4 £156

Why did I buy them?

For the telephoto Zuikos, the only way to find out how much better a quality lens is than the cheap equivalent is to buy them and find out.
For the Samyangs, this was the cheapest way to get that FL and aperture respectively.

No regrets with any of these. The Samyangs were new, and the Zuikos are mint so they can all be sold if I decide I don't want them anymore.

I paid EUR 3000 for a SMC Pentax-F* 250-600mm f/5.6 ED [IF] zoom, near mint in its original trunk.

£80 for a bespoke leather case that had a Praktica VF and a set of Pentacon lenses - 29mm, 30mm, 50mm, 135mm and 200mm - all mint condition.
The 50mm had fungus, but the 135 and 200 were the 15 blade versions.
I tend to come over all cheap when anything costs more than £20, but I bought a Sigma 17-70 AF for about £250.

$ 70 for a Schneider Tele-Xenar 360/5.5

Three lenses tie at my self imposed limit of $100:
Vivitar Series 1 90/2.5 Macro (fortunately with 1:1 converter)
Zeiss Flektogon 35/2.4
Meyer Optik Görlitz Orestegor 300/4

I love all three, but I'm no better a photographer with them than I am with my $20, $30, and $40 lenses.

Where's Hari?

Mine may have been a Nikkor 105/1.8 new, in the mid-1990's. Recently it's my C/Y 60/2.8 Makro $600. Worth every penny.

Zeiss Distagon T* 2.8/21, bought second hand for £850.

Why? Bargain price for a dream lens.

Regrets? None whatsoever.

Olympus Zuiko SHIFT 35mm f/2.8 bought for €280. By far the most expensive MF lens I've ever bought (next in line is Zuiko 80mm f/4 MACRO).

A wondeful lens indeed but not very useful on my 4/3 cameras (2x crop).

So I sold it.

I don't regret buying it in the first place. What I regret is that I couldn't afford a Canon 5d MkII to put it in use.

I regret buying every one of my lenses (and bodies) because I do not have the skill (and the time, but that's an excuse) to make the most of ANY of them Sad

Did you regret it?

MF lenses only of course Wink

My was only a new Samyang 8mm F3.5 MC Fisheye for "only" about 285€ Very Happy
But I guess there I will buy much more expensive lenses within the next months Wink

1) My most expensive MF lens purchase was a new Samyang 85/1.4 Aspherical, which I believe I paid a bit over $250. I bought it because I wanted a fast 85, I didn't want to pay a ridiculously high price for a 20-year old Nikkor 85/1.4 Ais, and the Samyang has a good reputation.

Did I regret it? No. It's been as good or better than claimed. Maybe it isn't quite on par with a Nikkor Ais, but it's good enough for less than 1/3 the price. Oh, and the bokeh is spectacularly good.

2) My next most expensive was a Leica Elmar 100/4 Macro (bellows). I believe I paid about $225 for this lens. I bought it because I wanted an excellent, 100mm lens for bellows macro work, and Leica has a reputation for quality. Some pundits on the Net proclaim the absolute superiority of anything Leica over everything else. It's not true.

Do I regret buying it? Yes. Not long after getting the Leica, I found a beat-up EL Nikkor 105/5.6 enlarger lens for $15, so I had to give it a try. In direct comparisons, here's what I found: at non-macro distances, I preferred using the Leica--not because it was sharper and better, but because it has one of the best lens hoods I've ever worked with: regardless of difficult lighting, there was no issue with flare and reduced contrast. BUT, at macro distances (which is what I bought the lens for), the Leica has big problems with lateral CA, where the El Nikkor has no serious CA problems. Both seem equally sharp (meaning, I can't tell a difference, so it doesn't matter). For an order of magnitude less money, the EL Nikkor is a better macro lens.

3) My third most expensive lens was a Rodenstock APO Rodagon 75/4. I paid about $215 for it. After the debacle with the Leica Elmar 100/4, I bought the Rodenstock because I wanted a macro lens that would NOT have CA problems. It exceeded my expectations. The Rodenstock is the sharpest lens I have, and it has zero CA problems. I do not regret buying it. Not only is it better than the Leica Elmar at everything, it was about the same price.

Arninetyes, thanks for sharing about the Leica 100/4.

Shocked

"Lens" is such a limiting word Smile
My most expensive single lens was a nearly-new Novoflex kit for €250 and by the time I'd added on another head and an adapter or two it came in at €350. Not bad for something I've used about twice. Its retail price in the day was quite high, so I still regard it as a bargain.
I've made up for that by every other lens costing no more than €20 each (and many for €10) Smile

Uh, yeah. I've priced them, and I'm sorry to say, this lens is a bit over my budget! What they normally sell for would buy a Zeiss 25/2 Distagon T* and a Zeiss Makro-planar 100/2 T*, and leave some change in my pocket. Not likely I'll have any of the three anytime soon.

Do enjoy it!!
