Even better is the UC 2/28 which is a fair bit more expensive but still an absolute steal for the level of performance, I think they go for 300USD or a bit more. Attila posted samples from the UC 2/28 on NEX, check em out.

The UC Hexanon is 1.8/28mm and they go for quite a bit more then 300$.. I paid 420 Euro for mine and still think this was a good deal. I would say it's on the same level like the Zeiss T* 2/28 (Hollywood), also wide open a absolute top performer.

Aah, my memory is awful, thanks for the correction!

BTW, I'm still jealous of your purchase, my lovely 3.5/28 EE just feels somehow inadequate since you got that UC 1.8/28....

I thought you did most of your shooting on a tripod... Wink

Oh I do, I just have lens envy, it's similar to lens addiction...

I hear you Smile

Actually, when I first started using MF lenses, I never ever thought I'd be spending anything over £50.00 on one lens. In fact I baulked at spending £36.00 on a Flek 35/2.4 Laughing

Anyone else want to share their biggest buy?

My most expensive lens was the old 800mm f/5.6 Nikon. This lens is used mainly for astro, and the price was quite reasonable compared to an equivalent 140mm telescope.

Actually, the price of this lens per pound (or kg) is relatively low. My most expensive lens per lb/kg might be a small macro lens, or microscope objective.

I can relate to setting yourself a limit to spend, currently my limit is 100 euros max if I want something really really bad, which I have not yet spend for a single lens.
Still, every time I buy a well performing cheaper lens, it gets harder to justify shelling out for the expensive ones to myself Rolling Eyes , so I tend to wait patiently for bargains.

My biggest buy was a Zuiko 24mm f/2.8 and 200mm f/4 together for about the price you can get the 24mm on ebay probably (so still quite a bargain in my view).
No regrets, strangely I thought I would have been using the 200mm more than the 24mm while it turned out precisely the other way.
The 24mm turned out to be a fabulous snapshot/walkaround lens on 4/3 Very Happy .

Heh, I must use this argument sometime when I need to justify buying a lens. ;D

Ha -- Boomer, I was going to list this particular version of the lens as my most expensive manual focus lens. Bought it for $400 in just about perfect condition. Had it for a few years before my son's college tuition bill forced a sale!

That was a deal!...I would suspect you recouped your investment and then some...

BTW...see you were raised in Alaska... my wife and I lived there in the early 70's,my oldest son was born during a whiteout in December of 75...he lives up there now in Kodiak, with his wife and son who was born in Homer.

You got a bargain!...I paid £169 for mine in 2007 and sold it for £158 in 2011.

My most expensive single lens purchase so far was my Tamron Adaptall SP 300mm f2.8 LD IF (60B model), which set me back £382 from a Jacobs store in London, back in 2008.
It was reduced from £649 and it still has their £649 price sticker on it to prove it!
£382 is still very cheap for a 300mm f2.8 lens though...You only have to check out how much they fetch on ebay to know that! Wink
My second most expensive single lens puchase was a Carl Zeiss 85mm f1.4 Planar T*, which set me back £335 on ebay, back in 2007...I sold it on ebay at a huge loss for £158, back in 2011. Crying or Very sad
My third most expensive single lens puchase was my first Canon FD 85mm f1.2 L, which I bought from a guy in Malaysia for £310 on ebay, to replace the afformentioned Zeiss 85/1.4...When it arrived I found it that the fixed rear element was missing (probably broken), making it completely usless! Crying or Very sad Sadly though, I could'nt return it and as I really wanted this lens to work so bad I ended up buying a second one from a guy in Germany on ebay, which was totally complete, for a further £199...Making this my most expensive double lens purchase to date...To get a single working one cost me £509! Shocked
Still, it is probably the best lens I have so I'm not bitter. Wink

Good luck finding a 2.4/35 Flek for 36 now!

I can't afford expensive lenses but I have unearthed ones that have the same level of IQ as the top of the strata price-wise for not a great deal, although my most expensive was a Topcon 5.6/200 for over 60ukp, I haven't paid more than 40ukp for any of my others and I have a fair number of stunning lenses now.

If we were all rich we'd all buy T* or old Contarex glass but we all ain't and there are so many other gems out there to be used and enjoyed...

I do enjoy hearing about what others have spent top dollar on though. I can't think of any lenses I really want that are gonna cost me a lot of cash, not when I can acquire gens like the Primotar 3.5/50 red V and Industar-22 3.5/50 red P for very reasonable prices.

For me it's the 1.4 fifty Planar in ZF mount, cost about 400€.
As it is the only lens i use on the D700, it was a good investment Very Happy

I haven't got enough money to spend much on lenses. Also, I think I'd be afraid of damaging an expensive lens if I had one.

Most expensive MF lens was my Ais 50/1.4 at about 35 euro. I like it but I use the Ais 24/2.8 much more frequently.

Most expensive AF lens is my 35/1.8 G which was about 200 euro. I love it so much that I rarely use my kit lens anymore.

70€ for an SMC-Takumar in shitty state. I don't what it is exactly, but the glass isn't in optical state, that's for sure. I feel ripped, but really wanted to try one out. Do I regret buying it? I guess so, not sure.

what exactly is faulty and which lens exactly is it? Most Takumars are very streight forward and easy to open and to clean.

Is the glass yellow looking? If so, that'll be the radioactive Thorium elements causing the problem and the cure it to take both caps off the lens and expose the lens to strong UV light for about a week.
Or is there some other problem with glass?
