What is your dream lens?

What is currently your dream lens?
I own many beautiful lenses, but I still long for one. It's the Zeiss Biogon 2/35.
The price (900 Eur + 75 Eur for the lens hood), and the fact that it requires a camera type that I don't have (a M-mount rangefinder), place it out of my current reach.
It has, however, impressive specs, and the reports I read about it, speak of a lens that is able to put together a high resolving power and the "organic" feel of the rendition of the old classic lenses, together with an impressive colour saturation.

Here's the lens in full glory:

And here's two grabs from the brochure, that blew me away:

"Distortion" (should we still call it that way, in fronf of this graph?):

MTF Resolving power at f/4:

Which means that by f/4 this lens is probably able to resolve nose hairs from a man standing 15m away from you.

Ewww.... I think I'll stick with the cheap stuff, thank you. Smile

That is impressive, though.

Wow, that looks impressive Orio!

For me, the Pentax-A* 85mm f1.4

It just seems like a wonderful portrait lens, and i can think of a million situations where I could use it...

It is nice to dream!

So, my dream lens would be the Leica Summilux-M 1.4/35 Asph.
http://de.leica-camera.com/photography/m_system/lenses/131.html

on the Leica M8
http://de.leica-camera.com/photography/m_system/m8/

And as further lenses, I like to dream about adding a Leica Noctilux-M 1.0/50
http://de.leica-camera.com/photography/m_system/lenses/133.html
and a Leica Elmarit-M 2.8/21 Asph.
http://de.leica-camera.com/photography/m_system/lenses/128.html

Dream lenses for my 40D?
- EF 24mm 1:1.4L USM
- EF 35mm 1:1.4L USM
- EF 50mm 1:1.2L USM
- EF 85mm 1:1.2L II USM
This would be a great AF set. Twisted Evil

And this:
- CZ Distagon T* 2,8/25
- CZ Distagon T* 2/35
- CZ Planar T* 1,4/50
- CZ Planar T* 1,4/85
would be a very nice MF set. Very Happy

Do I have a dream lens that might be possible to own one day?
There is not really a lens that I want to have at the moment. I am pretty satisfied with my collection.
Perhaps the Olympus Zuiko MC Auto-W 3.5/18, although it is as expensive as the above mentioned Zeiss lenses!

That's a nice lens Orio!

For me it's the faster Nikkors 500mm/f4 ED AIS and the 200mm/f2 and even the comparatively cheap 85/f1.4...

I agree with Orio on the ZM 35/2. But since it is not so expensive it may not be a dream but hopefully a reality. My dream lens is then the massive for M mount ZM 15mm f2.8. I love the super wides and this one is the best of them. But at $3500 +$400 for the viewfinder, it will only ever be a dream. Sad Laughing

Of course. Here's the web page:

Kinoptik is located in Antony, 92168. You can even plan a visit and pick up the lens in person.

Cheers!

I'm gotta get beaten here for this... Canon EF 50 f1,0 L...

Ah, I'd missed this thread.

Actual lens, right, rather than made-up "dream" lens?

Noctilux 50/1.0. And a digital camera that'll mount it. Doesn't have to be M9, just a FF digital camera with short flange.

On a separate note, Orio, now that you have an M9, have you got the Biogon? Smile

My current dream lens is not so hard to get as many above but this fact makes it even more pretty Smile It is Distagon 35/1.4 C/Y

PostPosted: Thu Sep 23, 2010 2:26 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

OK, I'd like to update as well.

I do own my dream lenses, at least those that are some kind of "realistic" dreams.

But I would like to try those ones:
- Sigma EX 1.4/50 (AF)
- Samyang 1.4/35
- Leica Summilux-R 1.4/80

And the whole Zeiss ZE-series would be a perfect dream!
