The fiddleheads on the Deer Ferns are starting to straighten out
from their tight curls.

More exceptional images, Larry!

I really do enjoy your works, and this is no exception.
Clarity, color, bokeh, composition... It's all there, and outstanding.

Yeah, ferns are fascinating and just plain bizarre at times! The first image reminds me of tiny gears and cogs in machinery.

They have a fresh, slightly acidic taste. Reminds me of cucumber taste. Cool

Fiddlehead ferns tightly rolled up like pic#1 are very tasty and extremely nutritious. You can often find them in season in a good supermarket here.

Yes, patrick! Very Happy

I am very fond of good old Bracken fiddleheads. But these Deer Ferns, as well as Maidenhair Spleenwort, Lady Ferns, Oregon Woodsia, and Fragrant Fern all have a fresh taste.

The nice thing is that, if you eat the tip fiddlehead, it does not harm the fern for the next reproductive cycle.

Wow, thats some really nice shots Laurence!

The background color is wierd colored and matches the fiddleheads in some strange way. Beutiful shots of a beutiful plant.

This is what I love about this part of the forum. At the weekend I took the dogs to some heathland near here. I couldn't see a single good photo anywhere. But I was surrounded by these plants in their curled up phase, and it didn't occur to me to get down and see what was at my feet. I'll go back next week, but it will be too late. But sure as hell I won't miss it next year!

I learn slow, but I'll stay learned Laughing

Yes, I noticed that the background is almost the same color, just 3-4 shades different in hue.

Same here, Graham! Sometimes I find images on here that compel me to find more of the same in my own neck of the woods!

Excellent Larry. They look the same here along a stream bed in the spring.

I used to pick a garbage bag full ever spring. Boiled with a little vinegar and butter. Melt in your mouth. Delicious. Some of the stores sell them. I must go find some.

Oh, I forgot, very nice shots.
