Thanks guys. The camera is apparently weather resistant. I was comfortable with taking it out in the rain after watching the digital rev video where kai tipped water all over the a7r Very Happy

haven't had much of an opportunity to shoot anything interesting since I got the A7 but I did take it on a walk with me today. the rokinon 85/1.4 used for this shot is new as well. I have to say that I like what this combo can do. Smile

I've pressed the buy button for the A7 and battery grip. Now I will have to offload some surplus glass much to my dismay even if I don't use them very much.
My slr lenses are Minolta,Olympus,Konica,Nikon and Leica, so it's cheap Chinese adapters and hope for the best.

I'm starting to like this camera more and more. Love the ability of swapping adapters and changing lens mounts. However, i'm still learning how to nail focus every time, peaking is quite useless in low-light.

Finally got around to getting one of these - the A7R - after totally forgetting about them for years. Reading
this thread to see, from a historical perspective, what the opinions were at the time and how early adopters
liked it.
So far, I like it, and the virtual semi-auto setting on it address one of my major concerns, is how good or
convenient would it be with an assortment of lenses that no longer have an open-aperture-metering and stop-down on
shutter release.
It seems the camera is smart enough to deal with that, no matter what manual aperture setting I have. I found my EM-1
does the same, which pleased me a lot.
I'll keep this for a couple of years and will upgrade to the next model with IBIS, when it drops cheap enough.
Using the D600 and the 5Dii, I missed the IBIS I got used to on my Pentaxes, will be nice to have it back on a full-frame.

I have been using the 1st gen A7 quite early on (exclusively with adapted MF lenses), and I did miss the image stabilier of the Minilta/Sony DSLRs indeed. So when the A7II and A7RII came out, I did the upgrade as soon as possible. Although you have to dial in the focal length manually when using vintage lenses, I immediately liked the feature, especially since four buttons on the A7II series can be programmed freely. I put the IBIS focal length selection on "C2" (close to the shutter release), and the function for enlarging the viewfinder (for accurate focusing) on "C3", easily accessible with the right thumb. After some time using these two buttons becomes quite intuitive, allowing precise focusing as well as realitevily slow shutter speeds.

BTW the A7II is going for around CHF 300.-- here in Switzerland - a pretty good price methinks. And 24 MP is kind of a sweet spot for most vintage prime lenses; the 50 MP class usually requires more attention to detail ... In addition the A7II series is much better built than the original A7 (especially when it comes to the stability of the mount which is crappy on the A7). That said, I still have the original A7 here, because I plan to convert it to IR (my only IR cam so far is a prehistoric Sony A100 APS-C).

I'm finding it quite ok. Took a little bit of fiddling to get it just right, but it's ok for general use. I have to get out and about with it to find any weak points.
The first proper digicam I had was a Fuji S7000 with EVF, and that wasn't anything like as good as this, but even so I found it perfectly useable.

I'm still on the default settings for most of the buttons. Once I settle in to it, I might change things. Actually, my baseline mimics the Canon DSLR as much as possible, since that was burned into my brain early on.

I might hold off until the A7iii drops enough, with the bigger battery, etc.

What's concerning me for now is whether it's worthwhile upgrading the firmware - mine is on Ver 2.0 and the latest I have on standby is Ver 3.x According to Sony, it's not possible to revert if I do an upgrade.
Everything seems to be working fine as it is, so I might just leave well alone.
