Samples from the lens above:

Brick test at f2.5

Brick test at f5.6

Minimum focus distance test at f2.5

Minimum focus distance test at f4
Bit of slow shutter vibration here at ISO 64, other wise it's fine.
It ghosts a tiny bit wide open at MFD, but I have to pixel peep to really see it.

Telephone pole test at f8 and approximately 90 ft. distance.
Image is a roughly 85-90% crop.

That's a lens I'm still looking for, although I have the earlier version without rubber focusing grip. Certainly an absolute classic and probably one of the most famous Nikkor ever made. Here in Switzerland the later (rubber) versions still go for >CHF 150.--, and I never saw one for a "good" price. I'm sure you'll like it very much.

Strange! Never came across anything like that here in Switzerland ... that particular lens must have a murky history indeed Wink

I think so... line of thought has been interrupted by "page turning"- probably not the first or last Wink

Just to avoid further confusion, it is a Nikkor 105mm f2.5 A/I-s.

I've had 2 of the earlier variants, and they don't quite meet this one in terms of performance.
Still a bit floored by the wide open performance- this is a bit of a first for me.

Just as an aside, there is a bit of unconfirmed hinting around of this lens being a slight optical improvement over the earlier variants without changing the basic scheme. Rhorslett has high praise for this particular lens.
I can tell you that the most evident change has been in the coatings. The pale green and earlier purple are gone now, replaced with a purple/pink coloration that now appears on some of the higher grade A/F nikkors.
Superb build on this. Functional use is actually a slight improvement over the 50mm f1.4 A/I-s, with a very smooth focusing collar.

I just bought a Kern, Aarau Macro Switar 150mm f/3.3
It has a c-mount socket but I want to change it to M42 ot T2 because this lenses cover FF.
A very light weight lens with excellent optical and mechanical quality.

This sorry mess is a Tokina AT-X 28-85mm f3.5-4.5.
From a camera repair shop at a reasonable price.

Much improvement after the first round of cleaning.

There's the main controls. Still a bit of elbow grease ahead of me.
There was a bit of buzz on the AT-X line back in the early to mid 80's, and I just had to see what it was all about. I think this is the first AT-X I've seen and handled in person.

From the quick and crappy test shots around the house with the flash, I/Q doesn't seem all that bad. I'll give it a fair test out-doors when the sun comes back out~ supposedly by this Thursday...

There's a clear view of the name ring.
I actually had to put a 3" hose ring clamp around the Kenko U/V filter to get it off the lens. Shocked Embarassed

Physical comparison to the nikkor 28-85mm f3.5-4.5.
IIRC, the nikkor appeared after the Tokina.
The Nikon is bigger, but in my hands, it's a bit lighter in weight.
Nikon gets the nod for smoothness of operation, especially at the zoom ring.
Interesting coating colors on the Tokina.

A little bit of "test" frames here.

At 28mm and f8

At 35mm and f8

At 50mm and f8

At 70mm and f8

It seems to have reasonable definition in this overcast lighting.

Apple tree blossoming at 85mm and f8.

Same scene at 28mm and f8.
Bit of bbl. distortion here. Contrast is a bit on the low side, but it *may* be the heavily used U/V filter that has a bit of a scratch in the coating. I didn't dare take the lens outside in this breezy weather without some form of protection for the front element.

At the macro setting and f3.5.
Bit of blur at image center on this frame.

Blur is gone by f8.

At macro again and f3.5

At macro and f8.

Minimum focus distance at 85mm and f8 with no macro lug engagement.

This is a sizable crop from about 2 meters from the subject at 85mm and f8. Contrast is a bit low again.

Lens seems to have reasonable definition in some situations. The contrast should be easily adjusted in post, which I have not done for any of these images. To be fair, I really should get it out in good daylight away from this low-hanging over-cast.

It seems to be a mostly usable lens. The macro seems to be interesting when I do my part.

Sounds like a specialty lens- is this a bellows lens?

(getting it next week) no, it's a "classic" MD lens (but, apparently there is bellows version of this lens, yea)

took it because a) triplet (collecting triplets); b) was cheap (15 eur)

This is the lens, unfortunately, firsts tests doesn't look promising (comparing to Komura or Petri triplets), but i need to take it out for a proper walk

I recently received this set from a diseased very old aunt, a Nikkormat EL with seven lenses:
Nikkor 1.4/50mm (1976-77)
Micro-Nikkor -P.C 3.5/55mm (1973-march 1975)
Nikkor 2.5/105mm (1977-sept. 1981
Zoom-Nikkor 4.5/28-45mm (sept. 1975-june 1977
Zoom-Nikkor Auto 3.5/43-86mm (1971-1974)
Zoom-Nikkor-C Auto 4.5/80-200mm (1973-march 1975)
Soligor Auto Zoom 3.5/35-140mm Macro

This is an example with the Micro-Nikkor 3.5/55mm

It's been a while since I've seen the old nikkor factory bullet cases in condition as good as what's shown Mr. Green
I have the final A/I-s variants of at least 2 of the lenses shown- the 50mm f1.4, and the 105mm f2.5. Both have received at least some improved coatings, and in the case of the 105mm, possibly a slight tweak/adjustment of the optics.

The 80-200 makes for a good portrait lens, especially around the 80mm mark and wide open.
Most of the glass shown here is very good indeed, and well worth trying out.
Surprised to see an old EL like that still working- most have non functional metering systems.
There were problems with the shutters as well.

Condition of everything seems to be really nice.
Congratulations on a very nice set!

I was surprised myself that this Nikkormat EL is in good working order, after having sat in a box with all the lenses in the garage for some ten years I think. At first I feared that the meter was way off, but now I understood the callibration procedure for every lens mounted and properly read the instruction manual it seems to work nicely.
Not sure yet if I will keep the whole set, for me the most interesting lenses are probably the Micro-Nikkor 55mm, the 105mm Nikkor and the 1.4/50mm.

That one looks to be in decent shape.

The built-in hood design allows a lot of small particles into the internals.
Most I have seen have been a bit on the dusty side on the inside elements, and a lot of them are fungused.

A surprisingly good lens on short extension tubes, with quite nice renderings.
I still prefer the 135 Q f3.5 for it's compact size, and again, rendering.

I haven't recently checked for values on the 3.5- it's not as in demand as the 2.8.
Mine came in another package deal with various bodies and lenses- it may have been with one of the F-2's.
