Last week I inherited two boxes with binoculars and photographic equipment. Among it is a Nikkormat EL, with no less than seven lenses:

Nikkor-O Auto 2/35mm (1971-oct. 1973)
Nikkor 1.4/50mm (1976-77)
Micro-Nikkor -P.C 3.5/55mm (1973-march 1975)
Nikkor 2.5/105mm (1977-sept. 1981)
Zoom-Nikkor 4.5/28-45mm (sept. 1975-june 1977)
Zoom-Nikkor Auto 3.5/43-86mm (1971-1974)
Zoom-Nikkor-C Auto 4.5/80-200mm (1973-march 1975)
Soligor Auto Zoom 3.5/35-140mm Macro

I won't be keeping all of these though.

I found a El-Nikkor 75mm f/4 for peanuts (even in the bubble)

Just nabbed a m42 MC CZJ Pancolar 50mm f1.8 for £15 on ebay. Came with the aperture blades stuck wide open but these freed up quite nicely by removing the back elements and working the the blades with isopropyl and cotton buds. Now a fully functional and pretty much pristine lens.

Got me going with a bit of a repair buzz so I did the same last night for 3 other Tessar 50's and a Jenna 135mm I have had in a drawer for ages. Smile

The 35mm f2 "O" nikkor is worth investigating. It close focuses fairly well. I have the "O.C" version and am keeping it. Very nicely done muted bokeh at MFD and wide open, or near it. I quite prefer that painterly type to the over-hyped bubble stuff that's all the rage these days as a matter of personal taste. The 4.5 80-200 is a surprisingly good portrait lens at some settings. The 1/2 stop slower aperture is no great hindrance given enough good light.

I'd give the 43-86 a test run at least. Supposedly the lens that started the bad name for zooms. I found it actually works quite well under the proper (and a bit limited) circumstances.

Curious about the 28-45. Let us know what you find with it.

Thanks Doc, interesting that you mention the 35mm, since I tended to leave that one aside but you changed my mind. I am interested in the Micro-Nikkor 55mm, which I am using now to see if I like its performance. Your remarks convinced me that I have to use all the lenses (except maybe the Soligor) to see how they perform, before deciding which ones I will keep. It feels very luxurious now that I have received this equipment that I can decide what I want to keep or not, instead of trying to find a certain lens for a good price.
It is still wonderful that such wonderful and quality optics can be bought for very little money these days, as shown also by the Canon equipment shown above.

Latest addition: Carl Zeiss 35mm f/2 ZK mount. Supplies seem to run dry of these in ZK (especially the 50mm f/2 macro). Got one for my Pentax K5 (which I plan to upgrade to a K1 some time in the future) fairly priced on eBay.

The lens is photographed on top of Bill Evan's 'Paris Concert' two in Japanese edition. Two nice things coming out fo Japan. I think the K5 is produced in Vietnam.

I have the ZS (M42) version of this lens, and I love it. It's so good I really don't even think about grabbing any other 35mm lenses anymore. They're not needed.

Finally a 105 I can get along with:

Nikkor 105mm f2.5 A/I-s shown here on my pet F2.
Bought from camera shop even though the s/n has been ground off. I will hold on to the receipt in case I ever try to pass it along or sell it.
Normally I would avoid a lens like this, but this is one that I've been wanting for a while now. They are not often available locally.

The metric characters on the focus ring have been Sharpied out as well.

Shown here with the built-in hood extended.

Some samples to follow later...
