Hello MF lovers, Ive lurked for a few months and this is my first post. Technically this wasn't a bargain but years ago my Great Uncle gave me his Exakta Varex VX along with multiple viewfinders, threaded macro extensions,a Novoflex macro bellows, microscope/telescope adapter, flashbulb grip system and best of all 4 Carl Zeiss Jena lenses: an earlier 30.5mm filter aluminum Tessar 4cm 4.5, the popular aluminum Biotar 58mm 2, the magical brass Biotar 75mm 1.5, and a wonderful brass Triotar 13.5cm, all in near perfect condition. I used most of this stuff with film when I was younger before the shutters started aging but more recently I dug it all out of storage and have started using the lens system on my EOS cameras. I had to partially disassemble a few of them to clean and lube the focus threads but as many of you are probably familiar, the results have been fantastic. I'm very thankful to have these amazing and beautiful works of craftsmanship and the family connection is priceless.

Indeed.
These lenses are good and somewhat rare.
When they do come along they can go for many times that price.
Lucky you.

Someone got an outstanding bargain at the weekend. A UK dealer had a Zeiss 35-7-/3.4 Vario-Sonnar & Mutar I for a combined £148, both mint & boxed. Sadly I was too late in seeing it, and got a call on Monday to say they'd already been sold before I clicked the buy button. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

On the other hand I did pick up the Zeiss 28/2.8 MM also mint and boxed for £164 - which is good for this post A7r day and age. My guess is that the picture of a G28 Biogon put people off the scent… Smile

Hello Graham,
I like the Soligor brand also. I have the Soligor 450mm f8 preset aperture with the T2 mount which I have used with quite a few different makes of cameras over the years by changing the adaptors. I use it most of the time on my Canon 40D and have found f11 to be the optimum aperture for sharpness. The drawback of minimum focus at 8 metres can be a deterrent sometimes but adding a small extension tube helps, with the loss of infinity of course. Yes indeed the Soligor 450mm is light and has good reach for birds. We are so lucky these days with the post processing software available.
Regards
Jim.

Hello,

my biggest "cheap treasures" after a lot of fleabay hunting:

33 eur. Zenitar-M 50mm f1,7 M42 , one of my favourites
43 eur. Mamiya Sekor 55mm f 1,4 M42 (Tomioka!!) plus voigtlander vsl1 and teleconverter, another favourite portrait lens
8 eur. Mamiya Sekor 50mm f 2 M42
25 eur. Jupiter 21M 200mm f4 M42 boxed like new
34 eur. Super Multi Coated Takumar 150mm f4 M42 complete like new, plus Takumar manual
15 eur. Tokina 35mm f2,8 M42 plus filter
17 eur. Chinon multicoated 28mm f2,8 PK like new, great little lens

all of them including shipping, in Spain I didn´t find many manual lenses...

Konica 35mm f2, along with a 50mm f1.7, T3 body, Tamron zoom... all for $AU100. So not a real cheap bargain, but a nice price for the 35mm f2 compared to what I have seen them go for on fleabay.

Maybe not bargain but quite fair price: 15 EUR with shipping for Canon FD 50/3.5 macro with badly damaged filter ring. Same price for Tele-Takumar 200/5.6 in nice condition.

I dunno if it's really a bargain, but I've bought on market a Zeiss Vario-Tevidon 18-90mm/2 in pretty good condition for 20€. I won't use it, but it's a nice big lens, I thought it would be worth the price

A while back I bought a job-lot of old camera gear off a bloke local to me on the internet, there was allsorts in there, paid £70 for everything. But in the bundle was a mint Meyer Optik Trioplan 2.8/100 (the one in my avatar), a virtually brand new boxed Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 Series E, the early black version and including all paperwork etc. and a Meyer Optik Domiplan 2.8/50 in mint condition too. So considering I bought them and everything else (and there's lot's of other good bits) for £70 it was an exceptional result.

The only other single lens bargain was was an absolutely mint Nikon Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 Ai that was attached to an old Nikon EM from a carboot for £20

Darren.

Post-war Trioplan 100mm f/2.8 Exakta: 35 euro, sold for about 200.
Pre-war Trioplan 10.5cm f/2.8 Exakta: 75 euro, sold for about 550.
Post-war Trioplan 100mm f/2.8 M42: 50 euro, sold for about 250.
Pre-war Trioplan 10cm f/2.8 C-mount: 175 euro, sold for about 475 euro.

Sold first three because I want to use lenses for their purpose (not cropped), bought last one because of exactly that but it was both too small to handle nicely and not sharp enough for my taste.

I know that some years ago you could find very good deals, but now prices seem to have gone crazy, especially with anything with zeiss or SMC written on it
In my case these would be:
-Tamron SP 90 2.5 macro with OM, FD and C/Y adapters, near mint condition 16€ on a local cash converters few months ago.
- Fujinon W EBC 35mm 2.8 with hood, quite beaten up on the outside but lenses OK, 5€ on a local market some months ago too

And also very good deals, my yashicas MLs, from 35€ (28mm, 50mm 1.7) to 150€(24mm), tokina 17mm 65€, mint Mir-20 150€, 3 leitz summars for 150€, etc....

Now tell me about your findings and make me cry Wink

My biggest finding is a GBP 5 Leitz Wetzlar Summilux-R 80/1.4! Would that make you cry! Laughing Laughing

Minolta MC Tele Rokkor - PF 100mm f2.5, original style, lovely condition, sharp across the frame wide open - £14.99. Took me less than 2 seconds to decide to buy that one!

Wide open on NEX 5N. Looks OK to me, but it would be nice to use on FF. Seems to be a bit of a rare version - there are several different 100mm versions with different maximum apertures.

I prefer the look of these old style Rokkors, lovely action too.
Does anyone else have experience of this model?

Well, about 10 years ago, I had 24 inch telescope mirror. Never used, brand new in box. It was big and heavy, but don't wanted to throw it away, so posted on local ad exchange that anyone can take it for free. It was gone in about 15 minutes. Only years later, I've discovered, what a gem I had and let it go away Sad
