Nothing really too special as of late but I did pick up a EL-Nikkor 50mm f2.8 (N) enlarger lens for $15 in mint condition

LEITZ ELMAR 1:4.5 / F=135 it is in really bad condition, no real scratches on the lenses but the aperture is stuck there is fungus on the lenses and the body looks likes it's been through the wars......literally but it seems to be from the first generation of these lenses and i got it for $5 so I couldn't say no Confused

and a Kodak Cine Ektar 15mm / f:2.5 c mount lens , I know it doesn't cover the sensor on my half frame camera but I do like my c mount lenses and the price wasn't bad at $15.

then camera wise i got a fully functional Olympus Pen EE 2 for $10 and a Kodak Tourist 2 for $7 also working, which i was rather pleased about Smile

My new-to-me Canon FL 85-300mm f/5 arrived today. I was the successful bidder in an eBay auction for this lens -- actually, I was the only bidder. But my reason for posting this note is that the opening bid was a low $50 US. While this lens's auction was running, there were two others on eBay, with Buy-It-Now prices of over $300 each. So I figured that, for sure, somebody would put a bid in or two or three with such a low opening bid.

But guess what? Nobody but me bid on that lens. So I got it for the opening amount. Tell you what, $50 -- well, $70 when you include the shipping charge -- is a very good deal for that lens. Especially for one that is in as nice a shape as this one. It came with a case, but no caps. Its exterior is very clean, which tells me it spent most of its time in that case. The glass is perfect. Rear caps are no problem, I've got extra Canon caps that fit the FL mount. I don't have a 72mm front cap handy, but I do have a 72mm filter. So the lens is capless no longer.

I just did a quick review of it. You can find the review here.

I didn't know Samyang made an AF 14/2.8? What, was this guy badly mistaken, or have I missed something?

Of course it is an MF lens. Whoever was selling it was completely clueless.

You're from some eastern European country or Russia? (judging from your English)
I see the same stories form other countries like South Afrika, or other developing (photographic) markets. They rather have a shiny new blinb bling AF dslr to show their newly acquired wealth instead of looking at the real gems lying around Razz

Thanks, I don't know what this tells us about France Smile, A couple of months ago I've bought a leica R3 with 50/2 lens for 200€ that's considered a great deal (I traded the body for a konica 85/1.Cool. Here in Holland people know damn well what they sell and if they don't; they go find it on google and then go ask big.
In Spain I only seem to find high priced junk, never been on a German marked but I'm guessing it's the same as in Holland.
Never would have guessed it to be France Smile

yes 200e is a good deal, it's the lens price.
i spend a lot of time on french web site like "the good corner". Many people sell stuff without knowing what is it or looking on the same website how much other people sell it. Some time some want to sell it at the price that they buy it 20 years ago !!!
i will say that 50% know the approximate price, 25% want tooooooo much and 25% sell it as a "old junk camera".

Unfortunatly in my town there is no shop who sell old lens...
Best regards

leboncoin, don't ever see much special on that site. We have a Dutch version, sometimes I get lucky, but most known gems are always overpriced.

I've been collecting Konica gear for many years and in the last few years I was fortunate to score many really nice bargains. Some have been so good I've been left with a guilty conscience :)

1) Hexanon 57/1.2, bought at US thrift shop for $50 (in 2008);
2) Konica FS-1, with Hexanon 28/3.5, 35/2.0, 50/1.7, 55/3.5 macro, 70-150/3.5, $75 (in 2009);
3) Hexanon 21/2.8, 46 euro (in 2009);
4) Hexanon UC 45-100, $30 (in 2009);
5) Hexanon UC 15/2.8 Fisheye, $275 (in 2009);
6) Minolta XE-1 with Rokkor 50/1.4 and Konica Autoreflex T3 with Hexanon 57/1.4 and Hexanon 21/4.0 plus many extras, $46 (in 2010);
7) Hexanon UC 400/5.6 (missing tripod ring), $210 (in 2010);
8) Konica FT-1 with Hexanon 50/1.4, UC 80-200, Vivitar 285 flash, plus many extras, $113 + (in 2011);
9) Konica FC-1 with Hexanon 85/1.8, $78 (in 2012);
10) Konica FS-1 with Hexanon 55/3.5 macro, and Konica macro accessories - Auto Bellows AR 3, slide copier, copy stand, angle viewfinder/magnifier, double cable release, ₤63 (in 2012);
11) Hexanon UC 28/1.8, $90 (in 2013).

All of this stuff was in working order when I got it. The last one is probably my luckiest strike of all. I had been waiting for a deal on that lens for years.

I was very fortunate, indeed. I was browsing through the day's offerings at 2 AM and, all of a sudden, this auction appeared out of the blue. It wasn't there 2 minutes earlier. The description was absolutely surreal: "The UV filter you see on the lens will only be included if the lens sells for the BIN price". Needless to say, the lens went for the BIN price in 2 seconds. After all, I wanted that UV filter REAL BAD. Very Happy

But even in NL and in DE you can find some great deals if you look for them. The above-mentioned Hexanon 21/2.8 came from Berlin (OK, that was several years ago, but still a couple of years after the first mirrorless cameras appeared). Earlier this month I got a super clean and fully functional FS-1 with 40/1.8, also from DE, for €25. The lens alone often goes for several times that. In NL, I got an very rare (in 10 years of watching auctions I saw it 3 times) Hexanon 70-230 zoom from 1966 for my collection for €38, including shipping. So the bargains are out there. Gotta keep looking. But FR is indeed a nice place for bargains. A year ago I got a Hexanon 70-150 zoom for €10 there.

several years ago.. you said it. Today you would need much more luck to find a Hexanon 2.8/21 nearly as cheap (if you find one!).. at least on ebay it would be impossible.
A mint FS1 with the pancake for €25 is something you won't find every day.. but sure you will find one if you keep your eyes open.

In 2012 I got a FT-1 with 3.5/28, 1.4/57 and a mint 80-200 UC Zoom on ebay... paid €41 for it. But that was pure luck and I had no idea what I would get until the package arrived.
The pictures on auction was really bad, the decription like "old camera with 2 lenses" and my limit was just €2 more. Very Happy

Yes, today it would probably be out of the question, but back in 2009 that lens also went for several times what I paid for it, when it showed up, which wasn't often. That seller simply didn't know what he had. It's pure luck, really.

To me, Germany and the Netherlands seem quite comparable.
Ebay is boon and bane. People find lenses everyday in their attic etc. Especially these people tend to think think that they are actually able to ask for the prices the see on ebay. But you can find sellers that are not totally spoiled by having checked ebay prices beforehand.
Not long ago, I got a MD Rokkor 1.2/50 for 130€. No bargain, but an acceptable price. Same with an Olympus OM 1.4/50 (sub 1 million SN), which the seller asked 50€ for. Or the seller in an ebay auction, who recently offered me a Leica R 2.8/180 for 80€ because the auction ended and the required price was not reached (not had a hand on this lens, it arrived at my parents place, because I work in another country).
But I have bid on so many ebay items, I bid almost every day on interesting items. I always enter a reasonable price (well, in my opinion) but it happens not very often that I win an auction with that bid. I am not too long in the MF field, max. 2 years and even in that time, prices nearly skyrocketed, at least for some lenses. Even very basic and mass-produced lenses, like the East german Tessar or the Domiplan, are advertised as though they are magical wands, producing pro-like images.

Just found a Tokina 90mm f/2.5 with extender for Pentax for 130 euros on ebay two minutes ago, in perfect condition. Not too bad ! Cool

This is an interesting observation, and I think it contains something that bears thinking about.
Yes there has been an escalation in buy it now prices on ebay for almost all manual focus lenses, along with a decline in straight auctions for other MF lenses.
And, I think that you are correct in your assessment that very ordinary lenses are overpriced because there is a strange expectation that they will be a silver bullet to wondrous images.
To my mind this is being driven by a full frame DSLR mentality that thinks all/most old lenses will produce magic when attached. It is as though all the advances in lens design over the last ten years have not even occurred.
I think that this will likely be a temporary state of affairs until sensors that are not full frame but smaller, start approaching the resolution standards that high megapixel full frame cameras enjoy at the moment.
After that there will be a rash of old MF lenses dumped because they simply do not cut it and prices will plummet.
Collectors will still collect but bargains will once again be had.
This is of course only my humble opinion.
OH

We can only hope and be waiting for when the prices drop Very Happy

I have been out of the country for a month and a half, and have found ebay prices have gone up considerably on Australian ebay....but I know there is always a lens or camera that will fall through the crack at the right price. For me it's a game of waiting and watching. In the down turn, any money I don't spend buying a lens I can use it to get some lenses repaired. Cool
