Is this the 35-70 3.4 macro? How close does it focus?

---------EDIT----------
in a previous replies I wrongly assumed that the 35-70 focus to 1:2 like most macro lenses
I was mistake, the 35-70 focus to 1:2.5 so it cannot be assimilated to 1:2 family

some yesterday samples from the location of my macro shots

Your antique shots are also great, Poilu.

In you macro shots, what is the size in cm of the red alien in pictures 6 and 7 ? Smile

and on which camera do you mount this contax ?

Thanks.

thanks Olivier! the antique are not the best samples of the 35-70 but I shot them half hour after the macros and I included them to show the atmosphere of the place

the green spherical 'flower' is less than 4cm diameter so I guess the alien is about 3 cm
this one is eating and I had time to shot it, otherwise they are fast and difficult to catch

the contax was mounted on a 40D (like you I have a 400D & 40D)

Seems better to move this thread to MF Club Wink Google generally pick up our posts less than 12 hrs. After this sample I doubt I can get for less than 300 EUR.

If you all don't mind my amateurish questions about this lens, I have known of it and have heard how excellent it is.

Does the floating element greatly improve the close up performance?

I had originally planned to have a two lens setup, this, and the 85 1.4, but I had no idea of the usual sale value of this lens, so I may have hesitated on a deal or two in the past.
Would it be reasonable to say that one should expect to pay at least USD300.00 for one of these lenses? And for an excellent one, a price of around 400 to 500?

Truth be told, those images are just plain stunning! The bee looks as though it could come off the screen and sting you. And the background seems to melt away.

And the shot of the head, has such a clarity to it that you can sort of imagine the texture of it.

The two lenses are not in the same price level, the 1.4/85 usually costs at least 100$ more.
I am speaking dollars but really think about Euros because most of these lenses are found in Ebay Europe.
300 USD would be a good price for the 35-70 and an unbelievable bargain for the 1.4/85
A more normal price for the 35-70 would be around 400USD and for the 1.4/85 around 550-600USD

When I mentioned the price, I was referring only to the 35-70.

When I bought the 85, it was to save money believe it or not. I would have to pay from USD700 to 1200 for a Minolta AF 85. I bought an RX, which died and is gone, and the 85, for less than it would have cost me for the Minolta.

The Planar I have, I paid USD550 if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the info, now I know for sure that I missed out on a couple of bargains.

I bought 35-70 from KEH US$400, which included postal fee and Canadian
tax of 7%. This was in 2005 and EX quality.

Does anyone find their 35-70 flaring uncontrollably?

I check my >10000 samples of 35-70 but I only found 1 pic with flare
as always I didn't put hood and I get this red circle on the top
now if you like flare, better stay away from Zeiss Laughing

ps: the mark on the tooth is just a star
