One of my springtime childhood favorites was when the Garden spider egg sacs would hatch.
It's happening this week. Very Happy
My macro skills are a bit rusty (should have stopped further down) but I want to share with you anyway.
I shot first with my CV Apo Lanthar 90mm and was disappointed.
The light color of the wood caused the lens to flare from reflection on the front glass. I have noticed a similar issue before with this lens but not so dramatic.
So I switched to the Contax Macroplanar60 for these.
The spiders were moving like mad so I had to underexpose and recover later in RAW to reduce movement blur. You may notice a bit of artifact.

5dii shots at f8 first is about a 50% crop second cropped from that

Sweet and what an interesting color they have!

gosh, how many of them!
Do they eat on vegetables or predate other insects?

I'm happy you enjoy them.
These tiny little ones will grow fat on pest insects around the house and garden.
They loose the yellow color and will become more of a brown color in body with a yellow or orange design on the back and belly.
The fact is, this is as ugly as they will ever be in their lifetime.
The friendly spider Very Happy
These all hatched today from a silky white egg pod the mother made last fall before she died.
Normally you would not see so many together.

BTW
They are still sitting in the sun still so I tried nother with greater DOF.
No good Rolling Eyes to much motion blur from the slower shutter speed and wrigling.
Maybe a Macro movie would be fun Cool

Brilliant yellow and love the design on their backs. Would love to see an
enlargement of that.

I think the DOF is fine for that shot. Some in focus, some out.

I don't think stopping the lens right down would get them all in focus at this range.

+1. I also prefer some in focus and some out of focus.

I have also never seen so many spiders in my life.

Eep! these things can be a bit growse at times. Not if they are just hanging there, but once they are getting ready to go out. You'll see them crawl and move and well, it's not the most pleasant sight to witness through your viewfinder when doing macro's.

We've also got several of these nests in our garden, here's one shot of a nest that only just hatched.

These things are so creepy but amazing....when I was younger some older kid threw a spider nest on me...never liked spiders since! But these photos are fantastic!
