Hi Attila,

Yes, i have it Very Happy

And is really a great performer ...

... even when used with extension tubes for close focusing ...

... with a great color rendering and sharpness ...

... and a nice bokeh ...

HR version of the pictures above in my Flickr photostream ...

The lens is very well built, i could just complain for the lack of an hood (but i'm trying to find one), quite easy to focus, maybe just a little soft at f/1.8, indeed really sharp starting at f/2 ... Too pity i don't have the f/stop value in the viewfinder (i know, it's not an A-85/1.4 ) ...

And, before someone asks, i will not sell it Wink ...

Cheers

Hi all,

Thanks for your comments ... I had a lot of luck when i bought it almost two years ago, but i had to pay the price ... Now, i think this lens has saved me from buying an FA-77 (yes, i know it is an AF lens, but i use my Limiteds in MF mode ...)

Best regards

Big mistake, the FA77 Limted is a superb lens (I have it).

By the way, isn't the SMC Pentax 85mm f/1.8 optically the same as the SMC Takumar 85mm f/1.8?

FA77 is good but I like Takumar 85mm f1.8, especially color and bokeh. I'm not sure it's the same but I beg it doesn't the same to save my money for Pentax 85mm f1.8. Laughing

We'll see as I'm planning to do some (bokeh) test shots between the FA77, S-M-C Takumar 85/1.8 and CZJ 80mm f/1.8 Pancolar (if that one arrives).

SMC Pentax-K 85/1.8: 6 lens/6 groups, filter thread 52mm
SMC Takumar 85/1.8: 6 lens/? groups, filter thread 58mm

Enough to say that it's not the same lens, IMHO (i have both Wink ) ...

If i get some free time (and some sun) this week-end, i will take some comparison shots with both lenses ...

The FA-77 is indeed a great performer, and i will certainly buy it before it will go out of production, to complete my Limiteds set, but for now i can certainly cope without it because of the 85/1.8 ...

Just a question: instead of performing a bokeh test (whose results will be quite subjective), why you don't perform a test about color rendering and sharpness (which could be more objective) ?

Best regards

The SMC-Pentax K 85/1.8 and the SMC-Takumar 85/1.8 are indeed the same lens optically speaking.

Here's the SMC Takumar 85/1.8 (picture linked from Frank.Mechelhoff's website):

And here's the SMC-Pentax K 85/1.8 (picture linked from Bojidar Dimitrov's website):

Here's Frank.Mechelhoff comment about this lens:
Optically the same design as its predecessor in M42 mount - the SMC "K" series was made for the K2/ KX/ KM / K1000series around 1975 whith their slightly larger bodies.

Cheers!

I was also interested if those 2 lenses are producing similar results. I have SMC Tak 85mm 1.8 since 2 months.
2 weeks ago I had the opportunity to try SMC K 85/1.8 because a friend of mine has now one in possession (which was 3 times as expensive than the Tak version) and I compared those two lenses. I made several testshots with tripod on different subjects from f1.8 on, and they were producing identical results.
It was quite obvious after short while that this two lenses are mainly the same ...
If somebody is interested, I can show the test shots ... but anyhow differences between the shots are very very small.

I had just the feeling that the Tak was a little sharper at 1.8 but maybe that was just more luck with focusing ... Wink

cheers
Tobias
