Tokina. T4 mount on the Soligor version. Sold by everybody, @1968-1976. Very common. Nice lens, I have one in Sears brand -

Today i bought a Telyt-R 6.8/400 from a Foto-dealer in the Netherlands.
I payed 300€ but I expect it to be in mint condition.
Now Iam waiting for the lens to arrive....
The leitax bayonet is already waiting at my desk.
I am so curious how this lens will perform on my pentax K10D.

Hi, Timo!!

Well done!!!!

The leica will perform excelent on your Pentax. Don't forget, it's a LEICA LENS. Superb (build, mechanical and optically).

For me (and sure for billions people) you made the adecuate option.

Perhaps if you ask to minolta, canon or nikon owners, they can choose a different way. But for me, LEICA and/or ZEISS. The best way.

Good luck, but you don't need it, you have a LEICA lens Wink

Hello,

I'm very happy to have found this forum.

I just bought a Soligor 400mm f6.3 and it's not the same as those shown in this topic. So, i'm wondering which is it and wether you know it.
This is a m42 mount wich can be quickly unmounted by a lever O-L

Here it is :

Any comments are welcome. Smile

Hi Olivier,

I have that lens - its a Tokina-made lens in T4 interchangable mount that was sold by Soligor and Vivitar.

Mine was not working well I think, my results were disappointing. But I am giving it another chance today, it is in my office right now and I will see if maybe I made a mistake.

Thanks Luisalegria.

The seller told me he tested it with a K10D and it gave good results.
I'll see with my 40D.

Are you going to test it again today in San Francisco ? Is the weather fine ?
I'm fond of Jeff Keller's DCRP reviews. I think he lives in San Francisco. Do you know him ?

Might be a later version BUT make sure it's M42 & not T-mount. The pitch on the M42 is 1mm while that of the T-Mount is 0.75mm. If you try & screw one to the other, you won't get it off.

No worries, that one is one of the Tokina automatic series, not T2.

I can see its a T4, that used a breechlock system to attach the adapters, not the M42x.75 thread of T2 (or YS).

Thanks Jibbonpoint.

As Luisalegria says, it's a M42.

Today my Telyt 6.8/400 arrived, because of the bad weather I've only done a few shots, but I think my decision to take the Leica Telyt was right. It's surprisingly easy to focus, even hanhdheld-use without a tripod is no problem.
As I expected the lens is really sharp and contrasty so overall imagequality should be okay.

Some Shots will follow on Sunday.

Timo

Hello,

Here are two pics taken today with the soligor 400mm on my EOS 40D.
I'll do some more tests later.
At this point, a tripod is a must for long distance shots. The following shots have been taken handheld, but with the objective sustained by my knees (strange position, i know... Razz ).
The car was 7 meters away from me.

and here is a 100% crop :

Not bad, isn't it ?

PostPosted: Sat Feb 28, 2009 5:57 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Here are my first results from the Zoo:

Two crops from above, I think the Telyt 6.8/400 performs very well:

Thank You Attila,

I am still learning to handle this lens.
I expected this lens to be very slow and very difficult to hold and focus, so I was surprised how easy it focusses.
But a 6.8/400 is still a difficult lens so Iam happy for every good shot.

PS I didn't use a tripod all shots are done handheld.

@estudleon:

Yes I think Leica is allways good, again and again I am surprised how good these lenses perform even if you compare them to very expensive modern lenses like Canon-L series.

Wow, the photos of the bird by Soligor 400mm f6.3 is nice. The sunlight really make the difference. Is it very difficult to focus with the lens?
