Hello my friends,

I have some people interested in Macro lenses but the AF ones are too expensive so they are turning to MF lenses (they saw what I can do with them Very Happy) .

Wich lenses do you recommend?

Many thanks

I have and enjoy the Tamron adaptall SP 90/2.5. It gets to 1:2 which is enough for me. Using the flat field 2x extender gets to 1:1 but has drawbacks: the lens gets slower and much longer.

I don't really have a need from a quality standpoint for a different macro; I know there are other good ones. In fact, macros seem to be over-populated with great lenses.

I'd suggest they first try a cheap Helios 44M-4 or CZJ Tessar on a reversing ring, extension tubes or bellows before thinking about buying expensive macro lenses.

I thought Takumar 100mm f/4 Macro could be good.

Any unexpensive macro lenses with good quality.

I asked him about your ideia but he wants a "real" macro lens.

Many thanks Attila. This will help a lot.

Vivitar 55/2.8 (made by komine) is an interesting, and cheap, option macro 1:1.

The Lester A Dine 105mm F2.8MF macro....Excellent lens, AKA Kiron 105 F2.8 & Vivitar 105 F2.8

I must be Scotts echo.

The kiron Built 2.8/105 is a excellent 1:1. Maybe the best in it's price range.
This lens has Cult status and will not generally be found for small $.

If a 50mm and 1:2 is ok. I would highly recomend the Zuiko 3.5/50.
It is inexpensive (often under $100) and very handy sized.
The lens is sharp and has beautiful colors. The reds in particular are perfect.
Attila has some very nice samples from this lens look in the Gallery.
Another great 50mm is the Yashica ML 4/55. Again the gallery has samples.

In our Portuguese photography forum we are starting talking about MF lenses.

I passed the word and posted some of my pictures.

Many friends of mine are asking me about some lenses and I'm sorry for so many questions here.

It would be nice to us if they want to buy some. All of us have some lenses we want to sell.

Should I open a new topic for this?

Very good!!!

You can try pentacon 50/1,8 or fujinon EBC 50/1,8, they are cheaps and very goods lenses. In the reverse way too.

Ah... mamiya, takumar, ricoh, all 50/2 or 1,8. Cheaps and goods. Especially the 50/2 nikkor (super sharp). And the 50/2 ricoh "P" for the ricoh with K mount. There are a lot.

Good luck. Rino.

Volna-9 and Industar-61 have macro capabilities and are very cheap.
Of course they are not sharp as a Leica but they deliver a very good performance for the money.
The Volna also has a strong "personality".

Hi Orio!

What's "personality"? Particular bokeh or definiton?

Less contrast? less definition?. Thanks.

Regards, Rino.

Ah... I forget.

One cheap - may be no so - and excelent macro lens is the Steinheil auto quinon macro 100/2,8.

I had it only a few months, years ago, I couldn't buy the lens in this moment Crying or Very sad

If anybody can take it, do this!!!

Rino.

My macro lenses :
Smc-Takumar 4/100 M42 : Probably the best of my gear, to be compared with Tamron 2,5/90
Industar-61 l/z : best ratio quality/price
Noflexar 3,5/35 "Telescopic" (see my filckr gallery) very scarce , collector's very sought after and not cheap, but excellent . Always in my bag , tiny, lightweight.
Bellow's head: Schacht Travegar 4,5/105 (old folding triplet lens formula, see my flickr gallery) .
And enlarger lenses : Rodenstock Rodagon 80, Schneider componar 4,5/105 .
Oh yesssss ....! Steinheil 50,100,135mm (Macro Quinon, Quinaron ...) are reputedly excellent , but very scarce and sought after by collectors and not affordable....sigh ...

All of my lense 3.5/50 Zuiko has best "red" color on Olympus DSLR. I never sell this lens, simple perfect. I have same opinion from 3.5/55 Nikkor macro.

I think it depends on what you want. Most macro lenses have a good to very good quality.
I own these ones: Tamron 300/5.6, Tamron 90/2.5, Tamron 90/2.8 (I love their bokeh), Oly Zuiko 50/3.5, Kiron 105/2.8, Vivitar 55/2.8 and Vivitar 90/2.8 and I am happy with them, but the Tamron 90/2.8 MF is my favourite lens.

For none of them I paid more then 90 € except of the Tamron 90/2.8, the only lens you could buy new. It´s a non DI adaptall MF.

Without a dought the best macro lens I've ever come across is the Nikon Micro-Nikkor 200mm f4 IF AIS.
I also have the Micro Nikkor 55mm f2.8 AIS but the 200mm is in a totally different league.
Some samples, most of them hand-held!:
