I want to repair the small holes in the bellows of my Bessa RF. On another forum I have learned that this stuff is actually very good for repairing bellows: holes are filled but the material stays flexible.
But... I cannot seem to get this in The Netherlands. Any ideas, or ideas for other good solutions?

Try the hardware store - or electrical supply store - and look for 'liquid electrical tape'. Or a fabric store, for something similar.
Where I bought mine - an auto parts store. They called it "Black Silicone Adhesive Sealant" though I suspected a couple of other tubes were similar stuff. The Adhesive Sealant was the cheapest. It works fine. _________________ -Jussi

Stay tuned. Tomorrow I'm going to try some homebrew magic that might work. _________________ Dave - Moderator

Hi Peter
This stuff you speak of is used extensively for Marine electrical systems.
I have some that stays on the boat.
Try a Marine sundries and supply shop.
It does work quite well and stays very flexible.
When you find it buy a few extra small applicators.
The stuff is pretty messy as you can imagine _________________ Moderator |

Micro Tools Europe : http://www.micro-tools.de/mm5/e_adhesives.htm. They're based in Germany. I did not buy anything from them yet so I can not testify about the quality of their service.
Item #10-1762-F should be what you're looking for.

Here it is
The shutter on the Ihagee was full of pinholes along the lines of where the fabric had become creased. After making up some mixtures of PVA and black pigment I settled on a simple 50/50 mix. PVA is a building adhesive that is used to stabilise plaster surfaces prior to painting, also added to mortar, also a wood glue. The pigment was simply poster paint made up as a gel in a bottle and I haven't a clue what was in it but it was non-toxic.
My prior testing had established the 50/50 mix provided a good flexible coating and filler, without stiffening the paper I'd coated it with. So far, results are good, although I was careful to keep the applied mix off the side rails of the shutter and as soon as one curtain dried, I worked it many times back and forward to make sure there was no sticking.
It'll do in the meantime, until I can replace the shutter cloth with the proper stuff. The shutter times seem to be reasonably in line with the times on the side plate, but ancient springs inside probably contribute more to inaccuracies.
This PVA/paint mix may be suitable for patching bellows, especially if it's used to glue small pieces of cloth to the corners or over the holes. Try it and see. _________________ Dave - Moderator

Would it be possible to use this to repair light leeks in shutter curtains? _________________ Henrik

@Farside: looks like a good idea, certainly more economic than liquid tape.
Thanks for sharing.

That's exactly what I used it for - but I don't know how much I'd be willing to risk a more valuable camera. The Ihagee shutter curtains are huge (9x12cm + ), relatively bomb-proof and there's plenty of room to work on them or strip them out if unsuccessful. I'd certainly give it a go on some cheap 35mm camera with pinholed curtains, just for practice, before trying it on something more expensive. _________________ Dave - Moderator
