With digital cameras, I had forgotten what it means a camera that lets you focus with absolute perfection and I mean absolute

I would dare to say that no autofocus is more accurate than how the Contax RX lets you manually focus.
I have used many cameras, in many years, but I am impressed.

I only have boring test shots to offer Rolling Eyes
Here's one, a focus accuracy test shot, aimed to focus on the central flower at f/1.4 with the Planar 1.4/50
Film is Fuji Sensia 200 (slide)
Scanner is Epson 4490

a test to verify the ability of the matrix reading of the RX to read a difficult scene. The scan does not give justice to the dynamic range of the projected slide:

Seems simple perfect!

Yes, excellent reading of the RX.
In the projected slide you can read detail also on the trunks. In the scan you can not Sad

Yes, I remember when you projected slides it was really, really impressive.

another light reading test:

PostPosted: Wed Jul 09, 2008 12:46 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

This time a true torture test reading for the poor matrix system.
Top left corner in full bright sunlight, the rest of scene, centre included, in the shade.
The result here is a bit limping... the top corner is burned while the shade parts are a bit overexposed also. The camera did not take in enough consideration the brighter parts:

But, even in this torture situation, here shines the Planar 1.4/50 lens and it's ability to provide good shadow detail even when the exposure is critical:

Focus accuracy test, also at full aperture f/1.4:

PostPosted: Wed Jul 09, 2008 12:49 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

This camera and lens are top in the industry so I not surprised at all.

Focus accuracy test, also at full aperture f/1.4:

Here's what I mean when I say that the precision of this camera at focusing is impressive. This detail is not sharpened:

Often, we mistake as our focusing errors what is really an excessive tolerance in the registration of the focusing screen.
The RX is build with such a precision that it puts to shame all the digital reflex cameras that I have tried so far.

This is true for almost all film camera. I found far better any cams than DSLR.

Yes, now camera makers rely entirely on the autofocus, don't give a damn anymore about manual focus accuracy in their cameras.

What about the bokeh of the last image (the whole)? Wink

After seeing these, I can't wait to try this cam! Thanks for sharing these,
Orio! I have the same scanner you have, too.
