Definitely what I would call backlighting!
I've posted this before, but since we have this thread dealing with backlighting, I thought this was very appropriate.

Here I go reviving an old thread . . .
Thought I'd post these two while I thought of it - the picture was taken in August at a friend's cottage . . . as usual Minoilta X70 and Tamron 80-210
The first is the original image . . .
This second is an alternative crop, suggested by stepson who was home while I was scanning . . .
That do you think.
In my opinion I liked the composition of 1 where David thought that his crop emphasised movement.

That looks a nice place Jim. I like the first picture better, I wouldn't mind cropping out the landing stage at the bottom or the pier thing on the left, although they give a sense of distance, but the sky is too good to lose.
I'm wondering if David was thinking about the white specks, caused by dust on the negative or the scanner platen. They can be cloned out quite easily, but I think it's better to try to keep the platen and the negs as clean as possible. I wipe them with a soft paintbrush before every scan, but a micro-fibre cloth would be OK too. _________________ Peter - Moderator |

We're blessed with many nice lakes in the area
Its funny about choices for cropping - though David thought the narrower one helped convey movement. (He realized that the dust was an easy correction - reclean, rescan, done So this wasn't the thought for him that I know.), he also actually liked my inclusion of the wooden dock at the bottom and the second dock, not to illustrate distance but he thought the repetition of the parallel elelments helped the overall composition.
