great samples Peter, as always !

I like the character of the lens a lot, besides all the abberations. Pretty stunning is #3.

Cheers
Tobias

So you wonder why a lens optimized for 750-1000nm (near IR) night vision system performs differently in visible light - you're just kidding, right?!

Nice shots btw. (as always...)!

Thanks Tobias and Klaus! So far I have no reasons to believe that the Cyclop 85/1.5 is something else than your run-of-the-mill Helios-40-2. I have compared the reflections in the front element to a true Helios and those were exactly the same.

But how would you tell that this lens would have been optimized for certain IR ranges? Even the coating looks the same to a Helios-40-2.

What a character! I really like the results!

The bench shows an amazing 3D effect and the flowers a lovely.

But I'm not sure if it's the lens or the photographer, since you make every lens shine.

Hello Peter. Very Happy

As always, your shots catch my attention !

I prefer the 2 first ones, as I find the blur too strong in the others.
But it's the lens character.

Here's one, shot in a dark pub. ISO 400, 1/15s at 85mm and f/1.5. I think the lens does exceptionally well with portraits...

I will be receiving one shortly.
I am really interested in knowing two things.
One a direct comparison test with Helios 44-2 & Cyclop with the former wide open.

And the other being, if it is possible to to insert blades of some other lense to enable other apertures.

Interesting and beautiful samples. My fave is the #2.

What is the difference between the cyclop and the Helios 40?

Thanks for your interest Wink

The Cyclop came from a night vision device and as such does not have a diaphragm built-in. So it cannot be used as a "normal" portrait lens with some stopping down to get rid of the swirly bokeh. Actually that's quite good Smile
