You have a beautiful country and you portray it so well in your images...I am astounded how people live on little cliff edges Shocked
Love the closeness and crispness from the Contax Vario-Sonnar 100-300.

Me too Very Happy
But we don't have all the land that you have in Australia, so we must treasure every space Wink

Liguria especially is a very particular region, with nearly no flat land: it's coast, then immediately mountains. So people had to invent ways to live there, like, terrace cultivations.

Even more astounding is, that in spite of it's awkwardness, this is one of the most anciently inhabited regions of Italy. The Ligurians inhabited Northern Italy long before the Celts and the Romans.
Ligurians originally occupied a large part of Northern Italy, including my areas here. It was the Celts who occupied the plains in Northern Italy in 7th-6th century before Christ to push the Ligurians progressively back, until they were limited in living in the current region of Liguria, which is, as I said, only coasts and mountains.
Then finally the Romans came, and took it all away from them (and from the Celts). But as it always happens, something survived, which is the language, which, of course mixed with Celtic and Roman influences, and then Spanish influences, arrived until today, where it is still spoken by the native people.

Getting back to today, what astonishes me really is how they could build the houses on the rocks one above the other Shocked

It often rains... but anyway they have pumps.
What I wonder instead is what do they crop? with the salty winds everyday, it must be very hard to make any culture grow healthy.

Yes but think of all the humidity and the saltpeter in the walls. Shocked
I and my future artritis don't really feel envious at all.
Plus living there would be lenskeeping hell. Shocked

You caught some great clouds and light in these land/seascapes. Really like
11 and 13 of the town. The terrace gardening, was wondering if I was looking
at something in the Andes for a second. Wink Simply beautiful area, why
I post anything here is beyond me. Laughing

Thanks for sharing these glimpses of heaven.
