Interestingly, so far no wide angle lens.

it's normal, it's very difficult for wide angle lenses to be sharp as normal or tele lenses.

Offhand I'd say my two sharpest are the Tair 11A and the Tamron SP90, but there are lenses in my pile I haven't used yet due to lack of adapters. The 50s; Rollei Planar 1.4, the Rolleinar 1.8, the Petri f2 and the Yashica 1.4 ML are unknowns as yet.

Im looking for some sharp lens and was wondering if everyone could name the two sharpest lens they own

Pentax-A 100mm 2.8 macro OR (though AF but has excellent manual focus ring etc.) Pentax FA 50mm 1.4

I have the Takumar 1.4 and 1.7 A versions, too but they're not quite as sharp as the FA 1.4 Sad

There are great options here..
This topic can be edited to add a poll, of all lenses posted in the topic...
Maybe also sorted by catogories like 135, 85 , 50 etc

have to agree with both those - I have the 70-210 and it's the only lens I have that I could not part with!

Hallo!

The fix focal distance brings mostly sharpness.

My problem is my poor abitity to get the objekt into focus, if the light is low.

I am not shure, but all of my lenses are sharp, if I can handle it right.

Every lens has a character, I see, but my experience must still grow (and the ability to perform in english

Wink )

see you later

yours sincerely peter

My sharpest lenses are clearly the Nikkor 50mm F2 Ai and for Macro the Micro-Nikkor P 55mm F3,5.

Mine would be the Nikkor Ais 105mm F2.5 & the Lester A Dine 105mm F2.8 Macro

Sigma 24mm f2.8
Pentax-A 50mm f1.7 (the sharpest).
Tamron SP90mm f2.5.

Other sharp lenses:

Helios 58mm f2 (44M-7)
Cosinon 135mm f2.8.

More than two but felt they all needed a mention Rolling Eyes

I don't own many lenses at the moment. But the two sharpest lenses I've used are the Canon FD 300mm f2.8L and the FD 85mm 1.2L. The 300 is the sharper of the two, I think. I used a Tamron SP 300/2.8 for a while and thought it was a very sharp lens. Then I used the Canon 300, and it was way better than the Tamron!

I see some people really like the Tamron SP 70-200mm f3.5 lens. I own that lens and agree that it's a great lens at a very good price. I actually bought a used Canon FD 80-200mm f4L lens to replace the Tamron. The Canon didn't seem any sharper than the Tamron, so I sold it.

My S-M-C 55/1.8 is tack sharp I didn't plan on buying anymore 50's for a while, it's a good lens and a hell of a lot sharper than both my Super Tak 135 and 28.A couple of days ago I broke my promise and picked up the
S-M-C 50/1.4 for 56.00 USD I know this lens is popular I hope it's as sharp as the 55

My sharpest would be the Super Tak 50 1.4 or any 50 to 55 lens that is on my camera at any time. It's hard to beat a 50 prime Wink

under 30mm: Distagon T* 25/2.8
35mm: S-M-C 35/3.5, Flektogon MC 35/2.4
50mm: S-M-C 50/1.4, Pancolar MC 50/1.8
80mm: Pancolar MC 80/1.8 (need to test Biotar T 75/1.5, Biometar 80/2.8 and S-M-C 85/1.8 )
135mm: Jupiter 37A (but I haven't tested many of them, I'll compare it to Tair 11A, Sonnar MC 135/3.5 and one more if I'll have luck)...

Voigtlander Lanthars, noteably the 90/3.5.

This 90 is consistantly sharp from wide open, edge to edge, from close-focus through inifinity.

Other lenses I have can be equally as sharp in places, at times, but none as consistantly as the the Lanthar series of Voigtlanders, lead by the 90/3.5.

Kelly.

revisited topic : probably the smc-a 1,7 /50 ... however , I cannot decide frankly beetween the 1,4 and the 1,7... they both give "hard" rendition . (colors, contrast).
1,7 :

Hello,

From my MF set:
Pentax-K 85/1.8
Tamron Adaptall-2 SP90/2.5 (but not at infinity)
Micro-Nikkor 55/3.5

But i would also add my SMC Taks 85/1.8, 105/2.8 and 135/3.5 ...

Quite strange that most of the replies here mention optics between 50 and 135mm ... No sharp lenses of longer focal length ?

Best regards

EF 85mm f1.2L II - autofocus is turtle slow alltho

Tokina ATX 90mm f2.5 macro, beats em all
Kiron 105mm f2.8, can't keep up to the Tokina but does a great job though.

Minolta Rokkor X 45 f2, JC Penney 135 f2.8.
Of course the Minolta MD 50 1.4 will be sharper when I get it.
