Very sad but superb shot, the BW version works wonderfully, and that Minolta mirror lens really is stunning.

Both great shots ! The B&W fits perfectly !

I also prefer B&W for this type of shots.
It is important to document the situation. This man does not look like a typical bum, he seems to be a normal person who's fallen in disgrace, like many normal people do today sadly.

Typically I agree that monochrome works better for this subject. However, in this conversion the background has become unusually busy and distracting. The subject himself is better in monochrome.

Both treatments work for me, except for the bag in front of his face (which, I suppose, gives anonymity).

ps: He doesn't look like a down and out. Maybe someone just had a "good lunch" and needed a nap. There is a cable coming out of his pocket suggesting he has an MP3 player.

very well done photograph !

I definitely prefer the color version.
just some thoughts:
B&W brings something abstract to the photo ...
... while color shows more reality; and this is what this type of shots need
because it's a real life scene.

Cheers
Tobias
