Very nice photos, they're sharper than mine

And I also compared the swirly bokeh of this lens with Helios 44-2 and 44-3 (sorry for the wrong names, I thought that they're 44M-2 and 44M-3 Embarassed ). Similar effect but looking closely, it's also a bit rounder and has a small round shape inside.

My Cyclop was gone, to be replaced by Helios-40 and I found that, even though they're optically similar, the focus at wide open of Helios-40 is easier than Cyclop and my Helios-40 is quite sharper wide open.

Woodrim, I like them very much.
Very good photos with a lens not so easy to use.
It suits you very well.

Did you make a manual diaphragm to obtain better contrats and sharpness ?

Yes indeed this is a facinating lens and thread, i spent ages happily reading through it after picking up Martyns example from the collection we are trying to sell. Which brings me to ask the question, how much do you guys think Martyns lens is likely to fetch? the value seems to fluctuate a lot from what I read. the good thing about looking at martyns version and this thread is that I realised the night sight thing was there somewhere so I dug it out and put it with the lens which presumably makes more valuable.

I would like to know so that we can judge any offers for the whole collection based on how this lens is valued within an offer.

I think I'm getting a bit anal about this stuff now Laughing

Steve.

Hello Steve.
I got mine for 100€ delivery costs included.

Looking at the ended sales on the bay, average price for good versions is around 150 to 160€ + delivery.

Steve: I paid $48 for mine, with shipping, but since then it went up dramatically. Several people here paid around $125 from a German seller, if I remember correctly. Then there are some crazy high prices being asked, but I don't really know how high people have gone. My personal opinion is that around $100 would be fair from a MFL person. I didn't know Martyn well, but I do believe he would have been quite okay with this.

I remember quite well some pictures Martyn took with the Cyclop. There was once of a fence/gate that I liked very much. He had some fun with it.

Thanks, Olivier. I do not use any sort of add-on diaphragm. All of my shots are stock Cyclop. I have found focusing as challenging as everyone says. The rather crude build of the lens and loose focus adds to the difficulty. Using the NEX with focus zoom/enlargement feature makes it much easier, but still, the result will also depend much on the lighting. Avoid bright light. I might also add that my pictures are adjusted in post processing, which includes an auto-contrast, although I haven't been disappointed with the lens' performance in that regard.

I suspect I'll be using it this weekend for the "Oriental style" challenge in the Art forum.
