You know, I think you're right. That does say 'Dodge' to me. It's definitely not a UK car (1) and there were a few ex-US servicemen's cars on Scottish roads at the time. The US sub base (and others) would let their personnel ship their cars over for free, but not pay for their return, so many sold them off when heading back home. You would see more of them towards Glasgow.

(1) The only UK car still on the road in 1968 that was anywhere near that size and shape was the Vauxhall Cresta and it's not quite right. Vauxhall was GM-owned and produced a few models that were down-scaled copies of US cars.
(edit)
How could I forget the Ford Zodiac? Yet another US-influenced body, but not as big as the one in the pic.

Dave, I've scanned the car at the highest resolution. Vauxhall Cresta looks favourite, what do you think is not quite right? The front end looks a dead ringer to me.

Definitely a Cresta - dreadful car. Almost as bad as the Ford Zephyr. We have made the point in other threads how photography acts as a time capsule for the most mundane aspects of daily life. If we compare the new picture with the old I am sure we shall see a very different skyline as well as totally different vehicles. Peter - a real treasure trove. I love the picture of your wife and she should be happy to see how you have kept it.

Thanks Patrick. I can't wait to see Bob's 2008 version. Looking at Google Earth there are lots of new buildings in the distance and many have disappeared too, but Princes Street looks very much the same apart from the traffic lights and road markings.

Haha - if you only knew! Smile The only reason I still have this one is because it's a slide - all the old prints of her have mysteriously disappeared! (Psst: I'll be scanning all the old negs before too long and hopefully I might be able to replace them. Wink)

Wow! Certainly not a Dodge of any kind after all!

However, I think I would take a '68 Challenger instead [383ci, 360hp]...

Laughing

I bet it's a much better car than the Cresta, Laurence! Do you have a picture?

Peter, I don't OWN a Challenger...just wouldn't mind having one!

However, just go to the search engine and enjoy the images of the '68 Challengers...Cheers! Laurence

Just the overall size of it compared to the other cars there. It's hard to be exact, and it might be a result of it being white, of course, but it just looks a bit bigger than a Cresta. While the two comparison pics seem to show the similarities, I distinctly recall the Cresta was a copy of an American model and it's possible one was actually present there. There seems to be more of a boot length and googling around brings up a 66 Pontiac GTO which looks very similar.
