Manual focusing is very very hard through the 40D viewfinder. The focus confirmation chip doesn't seem to be very useful. I have compensated pretty quickly be getting quite good with focusing with liveview, even handheld. |
I'm Pentaxian now and I'm not familiar with Canon dSLR stuff, so I must ask: does your 40D support trap-focus? I find that using Catch-In-Focus (as Pentax calls it) eases the manual-focus woes considerably, especially as my vision deteriorates. But trap-focus relies on focus confirmation -- I don't know if that remains an issue with you. Good luck! _________________ Too many film+digi cams+lenses, oh my -- Pentax K20D, K-1000, M42s, more

I know I can do it with a regular canon lens, but I haven't been able to figure out how to manage it with this lens. I was just about to post here and ask! |

After a little research it looks like it is impossible to trap focus on any EOS camera other than a 1 series. Kinda sucks, but I do plan on getting a 1dmk3 in the not too distant future. |

Ok guys, another random question. I was planning on getting anadaptor for each lens I get, and using an EF rear lens cap on it. I just tried to attach the EF cap to each of my adapters and it fits but it fits pretty loosely. is this normal? Are there certain brands of adapters that will fit an EF cap on them snuggly? |

All I can tell you is I got my Canon-alike lens mount caps from ebay seller jinfinance and they fit fine. It's always a bit of a gamble. _________________ Dave - Moderator

Hi stregone
Using manual lenses with the Canon 40D I would recommend changing the focus screen to Ef-S (Super Precision Matte). Register change in camera settings. Very good particularly for manual lenses F/2.8 and faster. Also, it gives correct exposures with manual lenses, which I have found the other screens do not.
