What beauties you have!!!! They are a dream.
Your taste in lenses is superb.
When you can, if you have a M camera, try the elmaron 2,8/35. If I don't remember in the bad way, at F/ 5.6, 8 and 11 is very, very sharp.

Hard to say, since "sharp" for me is not a primary quality of a lens.
It is nice if an image is pretty detailed, but there are many other characteristics that are more important to me.
Thus I do not often "test" a lens for it's sharpness and cannot really tell which of my lenses are the sharpest... _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

Hi, Atila !!
Note that 75% of the lens that you named, are portrait lenses. I think that in portrait is usefull the DOF of F/1,4; 1,5;
But in the others Focals the F/1,4 is direct to bad lights situations, so great sharpness, for what?
Logically, in the compromise that implicate the relation price-benefit, the lenses design reserve the sharpness for mediums apertures. But thanks god, the exception is there.
And in M42 there aren't many F/1,2 lenses to choose.

Yes that lens is very sharp, actually too sharp for a portraiture.
I suspect the lens was made as a macro one, very similar to
ML 3.5/100 macro lens, this is my guess. Of course they show different
drawings, ML 3.5/100mm is more oil-paint like rendering to me.
CZ Planar 1.2/55 is very sharp, bar none (believe me ).
Nikkor AF Micro 200/4D is also extremely sharp and lovely bokeh too.
(But this should be, it is designed as a macro and only F4.)
Don't forget Nikkor-O 55/1.2 (aka CRT Nikkor) is also sharp!
Among much modern lenses,
CZ Makro-Planar 2/50(ZF), 2/100(ZF) and
CZ Distagon 2/35(ZF) are also sharp.
But they are only F2!! _________________ Our Home Page has 18,200 photos in 575 directories today.

Hmm, sharp is relative and just one lens factor but let me provide my answers in the spirit of the question.
When I think sharp these are the ones I really consider
Contax Zeiss 100/2.0
Pentax SMC 50/1.4 (only at close focusing)
Contax 50/1.4 (when focused near or at infinty)
Contax Zeiss 28/2.8 (when used on a cropped DSLR)
Leica 180/3.4 APO (when focused near or at infinty)
Leica R 60/2.8
Canon EOS 400/5.6L USM
Vivitar Series 1 90/2.5 macro (yet with creamy bokeh)
Contax Zeiss 85/2.8
and the final surprise entry is....
Leica 560/6.8 a monster of a lense but when you nail an image with it the results will challenge anything out there.
None of these listed in any special order although I feel that the 100/2.0 is my sharpest. _________________ MF lenses: Contax Zeiss 28/2.8, 35/2.8, 50/1.4,

Pentax SMC 50/1.4, SMC 135/3.5,
Olympus OM 24/2.8, 35/2.8 PC
Vivitar 90/2.5 macro
Nikon 800/5.6

1.4/85MMJ
Zuiko 2/21 is my sharpest wide by a good margin and terribly impressive at that
Contax Planar G 2/45
Contax 1.7/50
Rokkor 1.2/58 but not from my experience as I have yet to use it much (new arrival) samples from others are impressive
I don't have a Voigtlander 125mm F 2.5 SL APO-Lanthar Macro but I think it should be mentioned. It seems to be very sharp and simply brilliant optic I wish to have one.
On the used market it is bring similar prices to a new 2/100 Macro Planar and that would be a first choice _________________ Moderator |

I had the 5.6/1000mm, what a monster, nearly cracked one of my tripods. BUT it is increadibly sharp!!
That thing also covers 6x6, sold it later to a Rollei SL66 user.
Not my pics, from CZJ btw.

...BUT the Zeiss West Contax Mirotar 1000mm is better, no wonder at 50k. _________________ Klaus - Admin

Thanks Klaus.
I saw those photos long ago. CZJ and CZ 1000/5.6 are much the same
performance wise, so said the owner of these two mirror lenses. But for
500/4 lens there is no competitor only among mirror lenses though.
The reason I want to own 1000/5.6 is to complete all the Prakticars. _________________ Our Home Page has 18,200 photos in 575 directories today.
