Yes, it's the battery driven model. Keep in mind, that this was made in the days of early auto-focus technology. It's not too slow. But no match for today's blazing fast focusing glass. Yes, it's quite a sharp lens. I posted the test results of it on my Flickr page. In independent tests, it performed VERY well.
