One of the reasons to use old lenses is the bokeh performance. Maybe this forum has the best reputation in the net of bokeh competence.
This morning I have made a shot out with 100mm lenses. All lenses set at f4.
Beside the personal taste, if you go for the bokeh rules. Wich lens has the best bokeh?
I will tell you later, wich lens is behind the number.
Thanks you.

It's not easy to talk about best bokeh separating from the images as a whole.
If I only have to take bokeh into consideration, #2 and #5 seem the more pleasing to me.
However if I look at the subject, the volume and the texture of the statue are better rendered in #1 and #3
As a compromise solution I would probably choose #1 for overall image (considering both bokeh and texture/volume) _________________ Orio, Administrator

I completely agree to Orio. Although the bokeh of number 4 on first sight seems to be creamy, it still shows an unpleasant effect.
Number 2 and 5 are the favs. (No.3 "suffers" a little from the hexagonal shape.) _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

#2 and #5 have the 'softest' bokeh of the shots shown. #1 has a 'harsh' or 'sharp' edge to it. #3 shows the hexagon shape of the aperture and as I stated before, I am not a fan of 'shaped bokeh'. #4 also has a harsh edge to the bokeh, just not as bad as #1.
If I had to choose, I would select #1. It is the closet to what I personally like to see (usually). _________________ Michael Hill |

It seems that there's a slight difference in lighting between the images, so it's a bit hard to compare other things. What lenses did you use? |

Yep if you have the luck to find a Sigma that doesn't crumble to pieces after some moths and have focus alignment problems. Not to talk about that the lens in question would cost you about 10 sonnars. _________________ Alessandro
